Brown Mackie Merrillville

Hi, I just came from taking my assement test at Brown Mackie (wasn't even hard). and they said that it would be 3-4 months before I actually start the program. I was wanted to know if anyone has been to this school. I've done alot of research about it but I can't seem to find anyone who is currently in the program or has already graduated. I just wanted to know about the experience, and what you're doing now. Did you still work full time while going to school, stuff like that

be very wary of Brown Mackie, their credits do not transfer to any school other than a Brown Mackie. They keep telling new students that the accreditation is coming soon, but it is not. So you can never transfer Brown Mackie credits to another school. Even after you are licensed, you will not be able to ridge to RN anywhere with their credits.

Yeah they told me they did, but I already found out they didn't. But I did find out that they offer an RN program at their Kansas City campus, so if I do decide to become an RN, Kansas would be a great place to move (well not all the tornadoes). But I was thinking about it since I don't have any children at the moment.

I would be wary of this school. I just started my clinicals and the director of the unit we are in said she won't hire any Brown Mackie graduates. She also added that she doesn't even allow Brown Mackie to come there for clinicals. This is coming from Select Specialties inside St. Margaret's hospital in Hammond. The other poster is correct too, Brown Mackie credits won't transfer anywhere except to another Brown Mackie. Look at all the options before you decide to go there. Good Luck!

That is absolutely correct. Hospitals here in Indy are going to stop hiring graduates from any school not accreditated. Brown Mackie isn't the only one. Accreditation can only occur after the first graduating class and that's if they do well on NCLEX.

Well, I don't live in Indiana, I live and work in IL, and I've already talked to my job about going to Brown Mackie. As long as I take my NCLEX and pass I'll be able to work as an LPN. And if later I decided to continue on and get my RN I can do that at another Brown Mackie School, or just do an LPN bridge, because I did take my prereqs at another college, the waiting list is just WAY TOO LONG.

I've heard rather horrible things about Brown Mackie as well. In reference to Brown Mackie credits not transfering, I contacted St. Xavier University in Chicago (103rd Street) and spoke with Admissions and the Nursing Department.

St. Xavier DOES accept Brown Mackie's credits. Yes, I was surprised as well. Pathology, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology and a few other courses will transfer.

I would love to enroll in U of I's Bachelor to Doctorate degree program. I NEED to get my foot in the healthcare door ASAP and BM appears to be the only school without a waiting list. The community colleges waiting lists and change in prereq's (due to probation for some) has become outrageous! 600 applicants with only 60 available seats? You basically apply to all schools and pray you get accepted.

Mabybe (and I mean maybe) I'll look into BM and attend St. Xavier's MSN program and then U of I's MSN to Doctorate program.

Brown Mackie is not accredited with the National League for Nursing Association, inc., and most Brown Mackie credits do not transfer to other colleges.
They are in initial accreditation, but not all are with the same accreditors. Very important to check out.
