by dudemursestudent Oct 18, '11I'm conduction a literature review on best nursing practices for therapeutic hypothermia in traumatic brain injury. I understand that benzodiazepines are contraindicated for sedation and seizure prophylaxis in TBI, but I don't understand why and I haven't been able to find many sources on the issue. I am trying to understand this from a pharmacological or biochemical standpoint I want to be able to understand the principle behind the issue. I have seen allot about prescribing benzo's during recovery and rehabilitation and how they are to be used with caution if at all. I have not seen any literature about benzo use in the acute setting, when you are treating a critical TBI on a vent.
Thank you
