oral glucose administration

  1. Is there a national protocol on administering oral glucose gel in between the gum and cheek of an unresponsive pt in the emergent case that there is no IV established or no IM glucagon available?

In my hospital, our protocol is if the pt is unable to take po and there is no IV access, either establish it fast, or put in an IO. Oral glucose gel is not mentioned and is not available from our pharmacy.

I guess a lot will also depend on where you are. Not all LTC will have access to IV
