Insulin: needle contaminated when injecting air in NPH?

  1. This one has been bugging me for a while...

When drawing insulin, we go CLEAR to CLOUDY, because (even a tiny amount of) CLOUDY can impact the timing of the CLEAR. I get that, BUT...

Why is it okay to inject air into the NPH and then insert the same needle into the Regular? Especially after you've rolled the NPH to mix it, there are going to be minute amounts that cling to the syringe.

In theory it gets squeegeed off the needle coming back through the stopper.
