Did you earn your degree from Exselcior yet? I see the post is from two years ago. I am a new LPN graduate looking to go on to RN

Tell me about Exselcior. Is it expensive? I'm so interested in hearing from someone who is in it or has already earned their degree.

Cisl- there are many, many threads about Excelsior here in the Distance Learning forum. I highly suggest browsing through them, as you'll find the answers to most of your questions.

I finished all of my courses through Excelsior june 2007 and WAS eligible for the CPNE. Because of other financial obligations (kids in college) I waited until now to take the test. I found out today I am no longer eligible and will have to take 5 additional courses. I am very disappointed and wanted to let everyone know you can get stuck like I am now out a lot of money and time). I wil probably go another route since it will end up costing an additional 4-5 thousand by the time I finish, and who knows they may change it again!!!

i have taken the excelsior college lpn-bsn program. i passed everything except the clinicals. i have 5 other friends that passed all but the clinicals. i dont think i want to waist the money on redoing the clinicals when the ratio of passing the second time is even lower. i am now looking into indiana state university. i do not recommend excelsior college. i took cpne in columbus ohio, they are now closed.

I talked with Excelsior today and was told my only recourse ws to appeal. I wrote and faxed an appeal. I doubt very seriously it will help. I thought I might look into ISU also. I already have a BS in another area. Do you know anything about the clinicals? (like how hard is it to get them scheduled, etc). Thanks for any info.

here is the wording directly off the texas bon site....

    "
    out-of-state programs/online programs/correspondence courses

the texas board of nursing (bon) approves and regulates nursing educational programs in the state of texas. the texas bon does recognize graduates from pre-licensure nursing educational programs that are approved/accredited by other state boards of nursing as eligible to apply to take the nclex examination(s) and apply for licensure in texas.
approval by the texas bon for pre-licensure nursing education programs in texas is mandatory by statute. nursing educational programs offering baccalaureate nursing courses to registered nurses are not under the mandated jurisdiction of the texas bon. rn to bsn students are already licensed to practice as registered nurses. many of the generic pre-licensure baccalaureate degree nursing education programs in texas approved by the texas bon have rn to bsn tracks included in their programs.
listings of all vocational and professional nursing educational programs approved by the texas bon are available on the texas bon web site. the contact information for each program is included in the lists. some may offer online or correspondence courses as educational options when completing the nursing educational program. the programs can be contacted directly to find out what types of educational options are available.
out-of-state nursing educational programs can be contacted directly for information and specific questions about the program and the program's approval/accreditation status in their state. it is recommended that individuals research the approval/accreditation status and credibility of any nursing educational program before enrolling in individual courses or the entire program of study."

    swifty,
indiana state told me that you pick your own clinical preceptor and have them fill out a form and send it to them. that's all you need to do. since you have your BA in another area it shouldnt take you anytime. look online at college network. they can tell you everything that you need. the clinicals there is no test. you just complete them with a preceptor. its like a REAL nursing school.
boy i have comment on other nursing topics some of these people are wicked if you dont agree with them. i doubt that excelsior will overturn your appeal. it stinks. best of luck to you.

No, you didn't. You took the LPN-RN. Excelsior doesn't offer an LPN-BSN program.

Wow, sorry to hear you went through all that. Will you have to just repeat the clinical with Indiana or some of the nursing courses. Do you have instant messaging Like AIM or yahoo? It's so much easier to chat. Let me know if you do. My screen name is CisL4him. A nurse at work also told me not to go through excelcior. Thanks for the insight

I think you're quoting the wrong person. My experience with Excelsior has been great. I DID fail the CPNE the first time and re-took it within two months and passed. Of course, I didn't put off finishing the program for almost a decade.
