Hi All, I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think? I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this... Read More

Don't get me started on the whole financial aid process! I had PAID off an old law school loan but it still shows up on NSLDS! Been dealing with various agencies for the last five months. Unbelievable how the government's right hand doesn't let the left hand know what's going on for fear of losing it's power position.

OU can't offer ANY financial aid (not even loans) until the NLSDS records are cleared. Again.... have been trying to get it cleared for 5 months! Banks, the govmt, and all involved ADMIT that it's their fault for not updating the info back in 2005, but for some unknown reason, getting the correct info onto NSLDS has been impossible!

So for the gal who is an alternate.....if the govt does get it's act together before school starts....you just MAY get my space. There'd be absolutely no hard feeling directed towards you....'cuz "everything always works out for our own best interest whether we can see it at the time or not" if I may quote my own earlier post.

But, I'm not going down without now threatening/pursuing a lawsuit if I have to. (recall that the paid school loan still showing up was from attending law school!)

Okay...I'm only human...NOW I'm starting to get worried! Wouldn't that just be "something" to get accepted for the Fall term, but unable to attend because of a FAFSA/NSLDS record mix-up?! Eventually, it'll all get worked out, but it may not be "in my time" as usual. I may HAVE to wait until Spring, depending on how OU decides to deal with the issue. Yet another test of Faith and Fortitude....aaaaarrrggh.

All positive thoughts/prayers for my continued positive attitude in this matter would be much appreciated. :bowingpur

I'm sorry for your situation but perhaps there is a way...have you looked into bank loans for the first semester? I got a Medcap loan from WellsFargo, which is paying a big portion of my school loans, it is considered the "alternative loan" that OU considers as part of the loan. Look into that before giving up your spot...I'm sure it will all work out. Good luck!

    CONGRATS EVERYONE!!!!!

So I was out showing real estate all day, closed our client on a beautiful condo in La Jolla, and when I finally sat down to check my e-mail........not so good news. I'm an alternate too! Does anyone in the program know how many alternates there are? I would love to get in with you all. I'm bummed, but like Renee says, it's all for a reason! I'm sure I will see everyone next week.....they have us go too. Pray for sandiegohopeful and I. Nicole

Thanks Allicat, but I'm sure you'll get the financial aid info worked out. I'd rather get in because someone decided to go to San Marcos or elsewhere than because of a situation like yours! I'm confident that if I don't get in now, I'll be fine for January because I am finishing up micro and doing well so my science GPA will be boosted. Congrats to all of you again.

Nikki- I called them as soon as I saw I was an alternate because I really needed more info. Suzanne wouldn't tell me where I was on the list because they are not allowed, but she said from what she has seen I have a "good chance." She didn't want to say anything more detailed because she didn't want to get my hopes up and have this be the first semester where everyone accepts. Also, she said that most of the people who will decline do so in the first two weeks. It's still an uneasy feeling, but good luck! I hope we both manage to squeeze in!

Well Suzanne told me I should go to the open house because quite a few alternates have made it in past semesters so I'll see all of you on Wednesday!

I'm so glad you called them! That makes me feel better. Hopefully they don't accept 75 people and keep 70 alternates. I'm in the same boat with the prereq's.......I'm still taking A&P l and A&P ll, both which should bring up my GPA. At least Jan. is not too far away. I'll see you next week! Keep me updated if you hear anything!

    Oh, Nicole...big hug to you.

Don't give up, honey! As I said, my spot may be avail.... Don't know how many alternates there are, but it can't be very many. Call Kennessa and see where you are on the list. I don't know you but I feel like an kinship has been made with those of us that have been blogging here, so I'll keep you in my thoughts. Just keep the faith about everthing working out in the end, as hard as it may be while you're smack in the middle of climbing the mountain.

You never know, my dropping the Fall start to get my financial ducks in a row just may be your "in" and it's okay to hope you get in. It's not like you or sandiegohopeful is WANTING anybody to have to give up their spot due to adversity. If it's meant to be....and all that.
I wish you luck and look forward to meeting you next week. I think we should pin a little "yellow ribbon" or something on our shirts so we know how to recognize each other. Any thought anyone?

Thank you Renee! Everything will work itself out with the financial aid! I'm am very happy for you, and let's for sure figure out a way to recognize each other. Maybe we all can meet out front 15 minutes beforehand. Regardless, I want to stay in touch! If anything you guys can pave the way for us alternates!

Hi all! My name is Jenn and I have been a lurker following this forum. I just found out I got accepted as well!

I'm so excited. I applied for the Summer start and was an alternate that did NOT get in. So I gave it another shot and I'm so happy!

I'm from Carlsbad, but am living in Lake Tahoe right now so am getting all excited to move back to SD!

Looking forward to meeting you all on Wednesday!

    Hi Jenn,

Congrats on your acceptance! Do you have any idea how many alternates they chose from the applicants and how many got in? Thanks!

No, I don't but they did tell me up until that point pretty much every alternate has gotten in, but they actually told me they "couldn't give me numbers" which was very frustrating! good luck to you!

Well good luck to you too! When I spoke to Suzanne she said that we would be notified by phone if a spot becomes available. Let us know if you hear anything. Are you going to the open house Wednesday?

Thanks I'm still hoping for us alternates....but at the same time I would feel awful for anyone who gets in and has to turn it down for some reason. I am going to go wed. night just in case I do get in or even if I don't it's probably useful info to know since I will be trying for January.

I wish we could find out where we stand on the list of alternates. I'm not looking forward to another month of nerves wondering if I might get in
