University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not aware of only three classes - that would be awesome! I have two kids, so if you can do it with one ( 1= 10 in my book!!) than it is probably doable. 3 classes would be better, but i am not sure that is the case.

Good for you hanging in there. This is a CRAZY program, and if I had known it would be like this, I might not have signed up for it. I will see my children next march!

Thank for your input, as usual.. GOod luck finishing the semster. Wish I was on the other side of second semester......

Oh really, shoot, I just assumed you guys would only be taking 3 b/c we are. At least that is what is on the schedule. Clinical III, Psych nursing, and A&C II. This is one less than the regular 3rd semester people b/c we are taking Research during the intersession.

Thanks! I can't wait to be done, ugh. I'm just counting down the days. Good luck to you guys too, you know it is doable b/c people have done it in the summer, so don't let all the negative stuff get you too down. If you really want it, you'll find the drive to get it done. :)

For those of you further along in the program... when do you think we will get our summer schedules? Is it true that some of you didn't even have your spring schedules until the day before classes began?

I can't remember the exact day we got them, but it was maybe a week (if that) beforehand. And even then, there were changes being made till the last minute and even after we started.

And for the subject about the summer, I have no idea whats going on. This all got me wondering, and earlier today I had taken a look at the book list and the list of classes we're supposed to take this summer that are listed on there, aren't the same as the ones that are listed on their OUnursing.com website... so who knows...

Does it surprise me? ummm, no. :)

I looked on the OUHSC college of nursing curriculum list and you're right, on there it says that your cohort would only be taking three over the summer but ours would be four. The OUnursing.com one says something completely different. Oh well....

What is enrichment day all about?? Is there as much for community second semester as first semester??

Weird right now they give us different info, you'd think it'd be standardized with such a large university, but hey I used to work with the dept of defense and nothing there was standard between agencies, so I guess OU isn't any different.

I can't recall the exact hours, if they were the same, but you do them all during the OB rotation, so they're kind of all crammed in there. You have to do 24 hours. So it feels like a lot to me, since we are in the heat of exams and now finals coming up and I'm still doing community stuff. But there isn't presentations and all that kind of stuff, you have to write 3 papers, they're short and easy and can be done in a group. So they're not a big deal.

I have no idea what enrichment day is, we didn't have one last semester. Wish they'd share a little info about it. Eh, oh well, bigger things to worry about, haha.

Do you guys have enrichment day on your schedule? For 3rd semester we have it after finals. It will be a day where we learn all about how to apply for NCLEX, how to apply for licensure, resumes, job hunting, etc. This is a new thing that Dr Haley has started and I think it will be very beneficial. I am looking forward to it...means I'm one step closer to being done.

Its hard to say when the schedules come out. Dr Haley is on it, much better than it was before so we'll see. Your new classes pop up on ANGEL usually the weekend before the semester starts and clinical schedules vary due to the clinical sites getting back to the school, etc.

Its not standardized...I have a friend in OK doing the program and she said they had psych 2nd and family focus 3rd. It all depends on what the BRN requires too, in OK they don't have to do Peds where we do. They have a choice there. So each location is a little different.

Yeah, ours is on Friday after everyone is done. I wish they'd just share a little info every now and then. I'm sure they have the best intentions, but you know how it is, we kind of feel like we're always in the dark. And then they expect us to just adjust to whatever they say on a whim. (even if to them its not a "whim")

I wonder what they are going to go over for you guys?

I know, so do we... and I just looked at the schedule, and the first semesters have one too.

hmmm...interesting. I wonder if they will cover all of the same stuff or maybe test taking strategies, etc. We shall see. :)
