Studying NC 1-7

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I am looking for suggestions on material to study. I work 3-12 hour shifts and have tons of time to study. I just purchased some stuff off ebay for $60 (still waiting for it) and I took the NC 1 pre test (scored 66%) with less than 2 hours of study. I want to get through the NC 1-7 quickly so I can schedule the skills test. I work as a Respiratory Therapist in acute care (ICU, Trauma stuff, NICU, insert a-lines and PICC lines) so I think I have a pretty good foundation. I just need a little guidance. All suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks Nate (i really dont stomp frogs just in case your wondering):wink2:

I would get both the College Network study guides and the Chancellor's study guides off eBay. You probably can get both guides for each NC off eBay for a combined total of under $100.00...which is not that much considering the convenience of having all the info right there. the Chancellor guides are really nice because they are quick and dirty and not as much info overload and overwhelming as the College Network guides...but can't hurt to have the more in depth guide too. A good, cheap, med/surg book that you can get off Amazon.com is a great supplement to the guides. Get each content guide (free from Excelsior) for each NC test and learn each review point there in the outline letter for letter. If you're really driven, you could do NC 1-7 in under 6 months providing you don't trip up and flunk a test.

Thanks for the insight! Did you use both Chancellors and College Network? Someone else told me to get the Mosby's Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN and read it as well.... any experience with that?

Yes, the NCLEX books are great too. I bought one and used it here and there in my studies too. These NC tests, afterall, are pretty close to NCLEX type questions.

Also, something really important that I forgot to mention in my initial post, is to study the rationale for each wrong answer that you had on the online practice test (that was the "pre-test" that you took, right). Know the exact differences/definitions of Macules/Nodules/Vesticles/Wheals, especially, since I have not met anyone that has not had a question on their exam with an identification question for one/all of those on there.

Ok that should give me some direction. Thanks for all your help!

Best NCLEX study guide: Saunders Comprehensive Review for NCLEX-RN by Linda Silvestri

Mosby's was great to use for the condensed outlines of the various diseases and areas of care.

Did you use it for studying the Nursing Concepts 1-7 or just for the NCLEX?
