I have never done this before. Any help would be great!!!! 4. finaid.org and studentaid.ed.gov are great sources that break down eligibility, loan limits per year and limits to borrowing loans.

Most schools will probably require that you complete the entrance counseling at https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action before accepting a Stafford loan. Lots of good info there.

I have a Stafford loan. The 12,500 is per year, not the whole program. I would stick with the federal loan rather than a private loan, since the interest rate for private loan depends on whatever the lender wants to charge. Stafford interest rates are capped unless/until the government decides to raise the interest rate.
