Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

lucky person. ;)

Hello All! I am newly registered here at allnurses. I am thinking about going to GCU or maybe UTA. I really like GCus approach. I would have to take 11 classes. He gave me a breakdown of ALL costs. I think this really almost swayed me. I am waiting to see how many classes I need to take at UTA and the cost of those classes.

GCU seemed to have a nice support system for people who need help. My counselor told me there is unlimited tutoring to help me with writing. Have any of you guys used it?

No have not used the tutoring, so can't comment on it. Last week there was an email sent out they were changing the tutoring to make it even better, sorry didn't pay attention to it. I do use the online Library a lot and it is great! The online set up is great and very user friendly. They actually offer a free online course that introduces you how it works! It is very easy, more for people that are not computer friendly.

You will be using the library a lot for your future classes. I don't mind it and I like the librarians when they are on duty. I ask them and they send me links. Very helpful!

I have never used the writing center, but GCU does have papers in the writing center of APA. Naturally everyone instructor has their own idiosyncrasies on formatting. I'm currently in spirituality and the prof is super, super picky, argh..

Are you familiar with APA, sixth edition? I highly recommend you start reading up on it now, so paper writing isn't so scary. If it makes you feel better, I have been out of school for over 20 yrs and had never heard of APA. I'm doing ok, though still could study up on the finer points, but it's doable. Find a template and use it. GCU has them in their writing center. ?

Good luck!

I love the program Perrla.com for APA papers Truly helps!! Well worth the $34

PEERLA helps a lot and so does Grammarly. It is a bit more spendy, (130.00 for a year), but it helps with grammar, sentence structure, etc. I use it as my second eyes.

I noticed it was very $$$$$--I wasn't sure it was worth it----I was hoping that my wife would be more of a proof reader as she is an excellent writer, but she is a busy person too. How does it help with grammar and sentence structure? Does it give you a complete choice?

Flames,

It will pick up sentence fragments, wordiness and other sentence issues. It used to tell me when I had a passive sentence, but that option was not in the update. I have a question out there to Grammarly concerning just that. It also has a built in thesaurus and that will automatically pop up. Some of them aren't appropriate, especially when it comes to healthcare lingo. I personally like it for the plagiarism and help with sentence structure and it always catches me on those pesky comma's!

I took ur advice and asked a librarian a question---and wow he came back with a step by step reply!! Right down to how to search and what to type in! Very impressed! Thank you, what a great resource!

I hate, hate, hate Grammarly. It marks mistakes that don't exist. I unistalled it with extreme prejudice Good riddance to that trash.
