No, I will start tomorrow. Should I find clinical sites before the application? Thank You so much for your support!!!!!

    Hi Natali,

    Where are you from?

Check some of my postings in the Deaconess arena. They have apparently corrected the clinical situation in the St. Louis area somewhat, but last year, a bunch of ended up without clinicals. It's a very long story. See some of my other postings.

What I would recommend is securing a site BEFORE you begin the program. If you can't find clinicals, you won't finish the program. You will have spent thousands of dollars, and you may not be able to transfer DCN credits. Check it all out very closely before committing.

Best of Luck, and congratulations on your career choice. You're in for a wild and exciting ride, in a field that has endless possibilities.

    Natalie60543,

All testing is done online in a timed format through WEBCT, with the exception of the clinical evaluations that are done in St Louis.

    Angie,

Yes, at the end of semester one there is a basic nursing skills evaluation that takes about 3 hours to complete in the lab with your instructor, so it requires only one day in St Louis. At the end of all other semesters have a 3-4 day clinical evaluation that takes place at a hospital in St Louis with a preceptor and your instructor.

If you dont mind me asking what kind of things do you do during those 3 hours and is it one on one or are there other students in there with you? Also, did you take the online course and if you did how was it as far as learning on your own?

    thanks

    Angie,

They test basic skills performance, i.e. Taking vitals, ambulating patients, making beds, trach care, NG tube insertion/removal, Foley Cath insertion/removal, Wet to Dry Dressings, understanding of standard precautions, infection control, isolation precautions, etc.

All of these skills are covered in detail throughout the first semester and then tested at the evaluation. It is a one-on-one with the instructor (no audience). You are provided a step by step list of what they will be looking for in your performance of each skill. I completed this evaluation in November 2004.

    Cheri
