New to College Network...anyone else?

  1. Like to find out if anyone is new to College Network or has had sometime with their study guides? I'm working on sociology and have other prereqs to complete before the nursing concepts.

On the issue of nursing concepts 1-7, why doesn't the LVN courses of med/surg, maternal health and psych count in our credits? Why are we having to repeat the courses? Is the concepts courses more advanced for the ADN program with Excelsior?

Need to have some encouragement and advice. Thanks to all you fellow nurses.

I was going to say...I hope you haven't signed a contract with College network but I have a feeling you have.
I am waiting to take the CPNE and have finished all my other exams. The only exam I used anything from a publishing company for was Lifespan Development. I bought the guide from College Network off eBay for $20.00
It was dated 1999 and this was when Excelsior was still Regents. I found the guide (used in conjunction with the FREE study guide from Excelsior) to be very helpful and passed my test with an A.

I made one A, one C, and the rest B's on my nursing concepts tests, but I might have made all A's had I used the guides from College Network.

I appreciate your response. I did sign on with College Network. I have about 4-5 prereqs to cover before starting with Nursing Concepts. Were the Nursing Concepts 1-7 more advanced than taking subjects for the LPN/LVN like Med-Surg, Material Health....etc. for the ADN or was the material the same? Appreciate your answer or anyone else. Thanks.

I am new to college network, I am not very satisfied as of yet, I took the amer history II clep and felt the study guide was worthless, it did not prepare me to take that test. The guide has practice tests all multiple choice like the clep but not the format. I am now preparing for technical writing a dantes test, wish me luck, I have been so bummed over the history, when you fail a clep or dantes you need to wait 6 months to take over. the score was 50 I only achieved a 40, I am sure it was partially due to the time 120 questions very long questions and 90 minutes to complete, anyway I failed not so great for the ego. Good luck in your studies. Deb

I have taken the dantes technical writing exam....Have you taken it yet and how did you feel about it? I passed...I was surprised to see that we had to write the essay portion which I was not sure I had to do...anyway...the dantes tests are more difficult in my opinion than clep or excelsior.

No I haven't taken the Technical Writing dantes yet, any advice for it. Also I was wondering can anyone out there tell me if they really read all the material in the college network study guides or is it better to just study the end of the chapter questions and know the material in the practice test. I really need help with all of this I have been out of school for a long time and I need some kind of guidance. Thanking you all in advance for your help. Tuckeroo

Don't think you will learn to much from just studying questions. Those questions won't be the same as the real exam anyway. You should study whatever the content for the exam is. You get out of your education what you put into it.

My thoughts are that you must read the guide entirely. Just doing the practice tests will not help you out. You have to use the guide and apply it. Focus on concepts and how to apply them rather than trying to memorize tons of data....The exams are, in my opinion, somewhat different..Again learn the concepts and how to apply. As far as the technical writing, study concepts for effective writing and communication skills. On the essay portion, I was given 2 situations and had to write propsals for one of them not to exceed 500 words nor be less than 300. The time went rather quickly to my surprise and it is necessary to follow the accepted 300-500. Any less, and you may risk not passing.

The questions are follow generally as the practice tests...however...they seems to go more in depth and focus a lot on concepts of the different theories of sociology...It was not too difficult..
How long have you studied for this exam?

One good practice site I have found is the free university project...I use it quite a bit for practice tests and extra reading.

Good luck on your sociology exam..I am sure you will do just fine.

I have been studying for about 6 weeks. I am able to a couple nights a week for a few hours. I also found the collge board web site that tells what percentage of the test is what. That has shed some light on the subject. haha!

I'm new to college network too. signed yesterday..got the lifespan psychology guide...it is informative...one thing I liked about the college network is that if I can't pass tests the second time around, they will pay for a tutor to help. It may cost more than some other programs, but it fits me for now convenience and family wise, and I am used to working hard for anything I accomplish anyhow, don't expect it to ever get different.
