I have spoke with financial aid and the enrollment person. What I have is this. The $110.00 is for books. If you have one or ten books the cost is same per class.

They will accept me to start without official transcripts. I will start Professional Dynamics. I think I can take two classes before my offical transcripts must be recieved. They have looked at my unofficial and given me a course outline to follow. I am waiting to speak with an academic advisor because they only show my human growth and development class as an elective right now. This is a required class. If they do not recognize it I will not go.

I have applied to Capella, South U, Jacksonville U, and UT Arlington. I want to look at all my options before I decide. Price+classes offered+time to complete. I want a good curriculum. I am planning on going to CRNA school once I am finished. I am worried about the academic coach at UTA, the slow process at Capella, some bad reviews I've seen about most if not all and prices.

Any bad reviews with GCU?

I have a conference call tomorrow with an admissions person. I will keep you all posted.

I had my conference call with the local GCU person as well as the admissions advisor. I have to submit my official transcripts before they even talk of an official admission. They do have my unofficial with gpa. It's higher then what I thought. That surprised me. I guess I wasn't as irresponsible as I thought 20 yrs ago, lol.

I have filled out the student aid information and I qualify for a pell grant according to FAFSA. :)

I was told of the 400.00 technology fee and the 110 per class for ebooks. No surprise there.

Once they review the official transcripts, they will give me my schedule. He gave me a rough draft form, so I'm assuming it will be the same. I will feel a lot better when I know for sure there will be no classes added.

In January the admissions advisor will call back and give me some tutorial links on how to submit papers, etc..My start date will be sometime in February.

It's nervewracking waiting for the final schedule. I will feel better once I see it and I hope it has no surprises.

Flymedic, there are no webinars. It's reading, papers, discussions, etc..as the other posters mentioned.

tokmom,

thanks for info on webinars. I can start with them on Oct 26th. I just found out yesterday I was accepted to Jacksonville U online RN to BSN as well. Both have discount options. GCU gives 10% if you are an ANA member as so of you know and JU gives an FL in-state nurses discount. I can start sooner at GCU, JU would start me on Jan 7th with 8 week classes.

All I know is that the decision on which school to choose is more difficult to me then going to school.

Which way are you leaning?

If you go GCU, it would be great to have a GCU thread so we can help each other along.

Good luck with your decision!

Leaning to JU or UTA not liking the coach idea a UTA. I have read a lot of bad info today on GCU. Over 150 BB claim against them. A lawsuit that they had to pay 5.2 million.

Like what?? Can you elaborate? My hospital recommends them. Now I'm a bit freaked out.

Well, I did a lot of surfing tonight and I am really disappointed in what I read. GCU had a 24% retention rate. That makes me question as to why.

Secondly, I went to the BBB website and was really upset. I also read about the 5.2 million lawsuit.

I emailed my work, as my organization recommends them on their website. I also emailed the advisors I have been talking to. I don't believe they will tell me the truth, but I want to hear what they say.

This is sending up tons of red flags for me and I'm really bummed. I was hoping to start my BSN next Feb.

Tokmom- I've been accepted to GCU but I'm still waiting on other schools as well. Cost is not the main factor for me. I just want a program that doesn't require too much fluff. I am a career changer so have already done lots of gen eds in my previous degree. Of course, I also would like a school that has high marks from other students.

Have u applied at other schools?

Hmmm.....if GCU has all these red flags I may just discard them altogether.

Where are you in the process??? Most of the complaints come from financial aid and admissions in general. Some of the technical posts were a bit older. They did change their IT programs and I'm sure that digruntled a lot of people.

The lawsuit was over accepting monies for recruitment back in 2007.

Reviews show it mid level in it's programs. Some people can't say enough about it and others had plenty to say. My husband said that only the ones with bad experiences complain and you never hear about the ones that had a good experience.

It is CCNE accredited, and the nursing program seems the most solid program.

I did email them and tell them to hold off on my Feb start date. I want to see a lot of it in writing first.

Why were you looking at GCU?

I would like to hear from the other GCU students that have posted before.

Tokmom,

I am disappointed as well. I am completely ready to start. Please let me know what they say. I will call tomorrow and ask the same. Jacksonville U doesn't have same issues. However, I believe the classes are not going during the summer. I know we may not hear enough good. There sure is quite a bit of bad.
