Nursing Students Online Learning

I'm looking into this totally on-line program. The price is right and it is a 'real' college in Florida. Anyone attend this school or have reliable information?

Thanks.

I live here in Orlando FL and can tell you that the Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences is owned and operated by one of the largest hospital networks here in Central FL. I know several people who have graduated from their campus program and really loved it. Their hospitals are excellent and have taken care of my family for many years.

If they offered an on-line ASN program I would be there in a heartbeat!

Thanks for that good information. According to their website, they are NLN accredited and also accredited by the Southern Assoc. of Colleges and Schools.

Of all the on-line programs I have investigated, they have the most personal and pleasant contact people--not hard to reach by phone or email. If I want an answer to just one question, I don't have to fill out a form or wait for a bundle of info in the mail to get it answered!

Think I have pretty well made up my mind, unless more data comes in about the other programs. And even tho the other on-line programs are accredited, I still worry about having a degree from a 'virtual' college on my resume.

Thanks again. :coollook:

I am a current student!!!!!!!!!! I was wondering if anyone else on allnurses even knew about this program. I researched it last spring. I had to drop my classes with UOP online due to the cost. I loved UOP's format, classes, etc. but was struggling financially. You know the drill: work full time, married, 3 kids, 2 cars, house, etc. Anyway, I have completed a few classes and am taking Chemistry and world religions this fall. My hope is that they will have their MSN program ready to go by the time I finish this BSN. Feel free to PM me or contact me at my regular email address if you have any questions. :)

Mona, are you enrolled in this program? If so, do you like it?

No, I am not enrolled in this program. I just provided a link because no one else did. I am currently enrolled with Deaconess and I am in my last semester of the pn component.

I was curious about the Florida Hospital program. I read that they are involved with the College Network. I thought College Network was some sort of "Rue" type thing. Anybody know what exactly the College Network is?

mona

I looked into College Network. They are sort of a middleman. Excelsior College has a disclaimer on its website, cautioning us about using this type of 'service', though they don't say College Network specifically. The CN charges you money to handle paperwork that you could do yourself. I did get from them some information about various programs available. However, Florida Hospital College was not a part of their network. Found that on an internet search by myself.

My spouse got his maters through the College Network. I'm not sure how it worked but he started with them and got his degree through a school in Omaha that was excellent. For him it was a positive, although very expensive experience.

I've decided to apply to Florida Hospital thanks this BB! The advisor assigned to me was very good and answered my questions and said he would be in close contact with me throught the process. This is much more individualized attention than I was receiving from St. Petersburg College.

What I liked was that it's all internet and NLN accredited. St. Petersburg College where I am taking coreq classes now presumes you have time and desire to go out into the community and work with families, and in public health. He did say to get their NLN approval we are required to spend some time with a supervisor/manager in the last semester. That I can handle. What I'm going to have trouble with is the expense, but it's relatively cheap compared to other on-line degrees, but much more expensive than St. Pete College is.

I start next semester! Wish me luck!

Good luck Tweety :specs:

BTW, I noticed that they accept a 3 credit chem and I also noticed that microbiology is not mentioned. I wonder if statistics is a requirement. Anyone know?

mona

Hi Mona b and all, Yes, there is a statistics requirement "Applied Statistics". After they reviewed my official transcripts I received a calendar with the courses and projected timeframe (semester) I will be taking them. Next semester I will have Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Leadership and Management in Nursing. I will have Statistics next summer. Are you familiar with WebCT? FHCHS uses WebCT to deliver the classes. I log in whenever I want. Have you completed an English 102 course or Chemistry? They are prereq's for patho and so forth. The calendar indicates the length of the course (5 weeks, 7.5 wks, and 10 wks). So even though the courses are in the same semester, they may not be totally concurrent. My chemistry course starts Mon 10/4 through 12/12, and my World religion course starts 11/7 through 12/12. Actually, when I was first talking to my advisor, I sent in my unofficial transcripts and was able to get some questions answered while they waited on offical transcripts to arrive. If you are interested in ANY program, please remember some schools require $$ before they will send an official transcript so start early in preparing your information. :p :p
