Excelsior Student Asks for Help from Fellow students!!!

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hello,

First of all, everyone here has a story. Mine is no different. Struggling student with other issues. Here's the problem. I'm three nursing concepts away from finishing my degree. Unfortuantely I'm having SERIOUS problems with Nusring Concepts 1!! I'm so piss to say that I have failed this exam 5 times and only have 1 more chance to pass before I am remove from the nusring program:bluecry1: . I have no idea whats going on. I have memorized nc1 notes, books, etc. Everytime I recieved an "D". I am a lost for words. I cn figue it out since all the other exams I have scored an A or B.

Does anyone have any suggestions??? Does anyone know of other distance learning colleges that I can take NC1 without risking my enrollment with Excelsior? Should I just count my losses and cease my enrollment?

Thank you for any sugguestions

Have you taken the online practice exams that Excelsior offers? I took these exams prior to each nursing concepts exam and got a B on NC1 and A's for all the others. I felt the practice exams really helped to understand the way Excelsior would be asking questions (besides, some of the questions actually show up on the exam itself).

What specifically are you having difficulty with? There's the breakdown of each area and the percent right you received on the exam.

Also, have you downloaded the notes from the various yahoo groups related to Excelsior? The notes available were a tremendous help.

I also have notes for each of the nursing concepts that I could send to you. Just let me know.

Mark,

I have taken those practice exams and scored an 80. I have memorized them in hopes that some of the questions would appear. As for the breakdown, each time its different.

This is stressing when you dont know what to do.

Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Nc1studygroup/ join and you'll get plenty of awesome help. You may have to go thru the main website and ask for an invite to join the NC1 study group. The main website is

to study for the exams i bought a sanders nclex rn comprehensive book. i also use the cd that comes with the med surge book and take the test questions on the cd. i got all a's except a b on the maternaty test. the best way to study for excelsior exams is using the sanders comprehensive nclex rn book and use the questions on the cd that comes with the med surg book. the med surge cd also has psych and maternity questions. i would like to know if anybody knows anybody who took the cpne 3 times and failed? i failed my first cpne due to nerves.

also, i personally found the first exam to be the most difficult because some of the questions seem very subjective. i believe you can skip ahead to other exams. i would suggest going to the other exams and taking them using the advice i gave in the previous reply above. that way you will have more confidence. i believe you can skip the second exam after you successfully complete the first. so maybe go to exam 3 or 4 or whatever and try them so you are not stuck in a rut with exam 1.

It took me two tries to overcome NC1. The problem that I had was a complete paradigm shift from my usual thinking (Medic) to that a nurse. It really threw me for a loop.

Frankly, my wife, who did a traditional program, gave me the idea of how to pass it: "choose the warmist, fuzziest answer".

Good luck.

I used the Chancellors tapes bought used off ebay to listen to in the car - everytime I went anywhere. ( my teenagers didnt want to ride with me anymore hehe) The links listed above also helped tremendously - the Yahoo group study buddies are SOO supportive. ( I am sure everyone here is too, I just found this site a couple days ago. )

You Can Do It!
