Excelsior College or College Network

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

I am eager to find an LPN to RN program. I obtained information on both Excelsior College:uhoh3: and College Network. It appears that the transition maybe easier with Excelsior College but I am not sure. Does anyone know which would be a better choice. LPN for 1 year and ready to move on.

mainly the general studies! microbiology, pub speeking, and its not that i dont understand the material its that they always wanna throw some crazy stuff in on the test that doesnt seem like was even in the text???? also, there are no resources excpet for other books and google! i heard that EC had chat rooms and things. I got smart this morning and applied at a local college for the gen studies though. hopefully i wont have to take the rest of them thru the college network and only have to pick up the EC courses....did you find those much easier to find resources for?? (assuming youve taken them)? thanks for ur reply

where do you go to find the EC chat rooms? Are there any chat rooms here at the LPN board? I can never find any and they are so much easier to access many people at one time.

I was wondering if you can help me with the lpn to rn. Are you saying just go to ebay buy the books and go to the testing place and take test then when finished apply to ec. I have checked with both but cannot afford either at this time. I will soon be capped at my job and need to move on please help thanks lost in florida

I believe you have to be enrolled with EC to use the chat rooms. Leo2

Is there anyone out there that took an RN program, failed and then went to Excelsior. If so, please tell me what your experience was like. Did they except any of your prior nursing school credits and how long did it take you to finish the program. Thank you.

Excelsior won't take your nursing classes.

There are lot of threads here about how long it took. Some people finish the classes in a couple of months, others take years.

Hi I have not applied to excelsior. I was going to and then a nurse at work told me not to go with them. She went through another online program but has not given me info. I just began this job as an lpn and met her briefly. I really want to move forward with my rn too.

I don't know why someone would tell you not to go the Excelsior route unless they're in a state that doesn't accept them.

people at my work kind of had me down today too saying that it is not worth spending money on a degree that I may constantly need to defend and that clinical time is crucial to being a confident nurse on the floor.

Once again they have me questioning my decision. Why oh why do things need to be sooo difficult?

I understand your feelings totally. I don't even want to tell my plans to anyone. I figure just do what you have to do and forget the rest. It's extremely difficult and if things don't work out I don't want to hear, "I told you." I just don't want to sit back in the classroom again. My fear is failing EC. I haven't enrolled yet because I have to take my Nclex and I want to take my Cleps first also before I make a decision. UGH!!!!

I live in TN, has anyone heard if EC is accepted there? I know I wont have time to attend another classroom after I become an LPN, not with five children and a full time job.:banghead: Thanks!

Your ok Tenn. will let you sit for boards directly with them. Leo2

This post was helpful for me because im stuck. I signed up with TCN 2 years ago, and did nothing with it. Now Im trying to get it rolling again and its tough. I called to schedule my first test to give myself a dealing line and my A&P test is 460.00!! I thought I included that in my College Network contract but they said I didnt. So....They said when im ready to take my test thats its an Excelsior exam. It got me thinking about a friend of mine and shes going through Excelsior. I think I need structure that excelsior has to offer. I was gonna call them(prob still will) and ask if I can transfer to Excelsior. But is that a whole NEW student loan?

Losing motivation, trying to hang on.
