Enrolling in Excelsior I Need Help!!!...

I am not as desperate as it sounds.

I have been a member her for 2 years tomorrow. I joined when I was pregnant with my son. I have given birth, been through Hurricane Katrina, be homeless basically, come back home to a strange house, and now getting ready to move to another house. All the while I have been trying to go to school.

I have finally done it. I now qualify for admission into Excelsior's ADN program. Now I need help.

I did the online application, and I put that I wansn't sending in any transcripts because I, don't want to transfer any credits in at the moment. I didn't know but I had a hold on my app, because they were waiting for transcripts. I spoke to someone in admissions today that toolk the hold off, and apologized. She said that as soon as she got my LSBN release, she will put the app in for review and will put a rush on it, ecause of the hold up. She said that it should take about a week.

Now, I asked this before for a friend, but I am asking now for me. Why will it take so long? I mean, since I am not transferring credits what exactly will the review consist of?

You are required to have 30 college credits in general education in addition to the 30 hours for the nursing component. Most people that apply to Excelsior have completed some of the general education credits. They process your application in order to give you a list of required courses that you must complete in order to graduate. It is like a contract. They have about 16,000 students enrolled. You are not the only person applying and they don't have 100's on staff to process applications. I think at the workshop they said that there are 20 people that do everything from answering e-mails, to processing applications to doing workshops to doing online chats and discussion boards and answering phones etc.

I was beginning to think i wouldn't get a reply. Thanks, I guess it makes sense why it would take so long. The person that I spole with today said that since I wasn't transferring anything over right now, that they would just, verify my license, and let me know what I need to take.

They say it can take up to 6 weeks, but it only took mine 3 weeks to get evaluated. I just think it depends on the complexity of your situation. I think it would best for you to go ahead and transfer your gen ed credits. If you want to get your RN through excelsior, you should do everything that you need to do to satisfy the requirements on your end so that you aren't held up in any way. :nuke:

Thank Army, but this was a long time ago back in 2006. I think I got my Congrats notice on 12/12/06. I finally actually started taking my exams in January of this year, and will be done with all of my nursing exams in a few weeks.:nurse::up:
