i posted this in the lpn to rn forum by mistake, and i don't know how to move it.

anyways, my problem/vent is this! i have two classes left in excelsior's program....ethics and english. i used to be good at english when in high school, but that was 10 years ago. i was to chicken to try and test out of ec's english exams, so i dropped 750 bucks to take one of their cd-rom courses in english.

problem is, first of all, i missed the first two weeks of class d/t being in the hospital for multiple medical problems. i asked for an extension, but i can't get in touch with my instructor. i have done the first four assignments, but have no grades. i get general emails from the instructor, but none of my grades, and no feedback/answers to many questions i have asked.

we have received at least four revised versions of the syllabus, which is very irritating because i have no idea what the he** i am supposed to be doing. every syllabus is different. ugh. i am so frustrated. i haven't written a APA research paper ever, so it's kind of difficult to read about it and try to come up with my own thesis and statements and etc when i can't get a hold of my teacher and get feedback on what i come up with. i spent the cash i didn't have for this cd-rom class in hopes i would actually get guided somewhat in what i'm doing. otherwise i would have tested out, it sure is a lot easier than what i'm doing now.

sorry....it is so hard for me to even get through this program since i have gotten so sick, but i did it. i have finished all but two classes, and i am having such a hard time with english! never had so many problems with any class in my life. i'm so frustrated!

ok, done with my vent now.

You might consider rating your instructor on ratemyprofessors.com . Click on NY and find Excelsior, then you can add and rate the prof and leave comments. I'm sure that prospective students would appreciate it.

I took the 6 credit (3 essay responses in 3 hours) test. I made a big fat D.:o . I wound up taking English Comp 101 over a 6 week summer course at a local community college. I think the summer classes are much more laid back than the regular terms.

What ever you do, stay the course. I just passed my CPNE this weekend. I can't believe it's finally over, whew. I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off of my shoulders.

:roll :roll :roll :roll :roll

Good luck,

really? what state is this college in? i paid well over 700 dollars for this course, which is ridiculous. but excelsior is so darn picky with their requirements and such, i just went with them. english isn't my strong point either, so i went with the cd rom course hoping i'd get some direction in support. instead, i get a haphazard, rude and demeaning at times instructor, when i have a documented disability on file for needing longer times and have already received an extension. i feel like my instructor hates me. i can't get answers to my questions. i just am overwhelmed right now. i am now cpne eligible even without the english, so i am going to focus on that right now, because i am off work yet again for medical problems. i just can't work because i am in debilitating pain and i need to take potent meds to function. i won't take the meds and work, so...i'm screwed. i'm thinking of filing for disability, but i need a lawyer and i heard they deny you at least one or two times before they'll give it to you. i just want my RN and have the ability to someday function halfway normal. i am so depressed and burnt out. but you don't want to hear this, do you. sorry for blabing on...

i was thinking of dropping this excelsior class since iam so far behind, and taking it again next term. i doubt they'll let me do that, even though i have medical papers (fmla). i need to work on my health right now, not my english paper.

Ivy Tech is in Indiana.

Congrats to Medicgrs for passing the CPNE!!! Let us know when you pass the NCLEX!

I had taken a CLEP for English back when I was in the traditional nursing program, and did well. They wouldn't take the credit for the written requirement, but they did take the credit towards my humanities.

When it came time for the written credit for Excelsior, I requested permission to take English 102 (so if I ever go back to school I'll have both) and received it. Most colleges and universities now have an online section, so taking it through the local community college was easy enough. I had to go to campus to buy my book and to turn in my final paper (the rest of the assignments were all online). So check your local college, might even be cheaper than some of the online colleges you might find. From what I've seen most offer English 101 and 102 in an online format. The main clincher here is that you still have to turn things in on time, on their schedule, not on your own ... my professor was very lenient with deadlines especially when I explained my own situation, as I was also ill and had surgery during the course of the course.
