That's great that they have dropped the general education residency requirement. I hope that is the same for those of us in the program for awhile. I will be done this summer and besides Life Span IV, the only things I had left to do were 6 general ed credits (all required gen ed credits were transferred from previous degree).

Mona B, how is your semester going so far?

Mrs Yost, I talked to deaconess today and they will accept the intro to Chemistry I from ccconline. I went ahead and signed up for the class starting March 1.

    Mrs Yost,

I noticed the same requirement you referenced in the on-line catalog...that was one of first things I questioned when I talked to Erin last week. She verified that the policy has been changed and that all gen eds can be completed at another institution as long as it is accredited and approved by the administration for transfer. whew!

Do you happen to know the course number of your chem class with CCConline?

    Amy P,

I'm looking at taking the CHM 111. You might want to double check that 101 is acceptable.

Are you going to enroll for March 1?

they will take either class. here is the email erin sent me:

the class i have on my sheet for that school is che 111 and it is worth 5 credit hours. i have also just checked with the registrar, and we would also accept credit from the introduction to general chemistry course which is che 011 (i think. it is the first on the master schedule). either one of these classes is acceptable.

i'm going to take the intro class b/c i think it will be easier!!

Thanks for the info Amy. I just changed my chemistry course to the 101 rather than the 111. Hoping it will be easier. I'm starting on Monday. Did you enroll for this one?

Have you checked out www.weber.edu they offer a chem class that is especially suited for nursing students and they boast high pass rates. As a matter of fact, I emailed one of the instructors last year and he emailed me back so I was somewhat impressed with that. I wonder if chem 101 would transfer into a BSN? That would be my main concern.

    Good Luck

I would have preferred to take the Weber course, but I have procrastinated so long that it would delay my finishing my program. My last day of class at DCN is July 30 and the Weber summer courses don't end until August something. Not like that it a really long time, but it then takes time for the transcripts to be sent and it can take awhile to get the graduation paperwork together for the boards from what I hear. I just don't want to have anything slow down my graduation (even if it is only by a few weeks).

As far as transferring to a BSN program, that might be a concern for anyone wanting to pursue a BSN. I already have a BS and don't plan on pursuing a BSN as there are several direct entry programs for MSN if you already have a BS in another subject. On a side note, I also had previous Chemistry credit that DCN would not accept. They would take the lab portion, but not the lecture portion. Weird huh?

Yeah, I'd say that was weird. I wonder if you could get away with taking a 3 credit chem class since they would take the lab from your previous chem class. I don't know if they would break it up like that but you never know. It sounds like you are good to go with the other class though.

    Good Luck

Mrs Yost, I did sign up for the one starting March 1, so I guess I'll see you in that class! I've had a run of blessings this week b/c my friend is selling me her laptop and they just called from the mother's day out where my younger daughter goes and told me that they have an opening on Fridays so I can drop her off then (in addition to the Tuesdays that she already goes) and have time to study for this extra class!
