CPNE sites w/o pediatrics?

I get all that.

Just seems pretty random, the whole CPNE. Again, I realize it's the nature of the beast that is CPNE, but I would imagine the stress factor of having a peds patient is part of the exam process, and you can't tell me those who don't get a peds patient don't breathe a huge sigh of relief.

I sure as hell would. LOL And I have my own 2 kids.

I didn't, and I won't. I can attest to that myself -- I was just fine with an adult sub!

I see plenty of peds as it is now, even with the Peds ED just a few miles down the road! I prepared like I'd get a pediatric pt., of course. More than a few people have expressed that the CEs seem more helpful where peds are concerned. Plus no manual BP, which is nice.

I just think for 1900.00 I should have as simple or as hard a time as everyone else.

Do yourself a favor and accept CPNE as the crapshoot that it is, for all of the reasons listed above. I failed my first CPNE and that was so lopsided it bordered on comedy or pre-ordination. My second CPNE was quite even for all 5 of us. I had 2 pts that could be considered a bit more acute, 2 of us had a very difficult wound dsg change, but all in all fairly equitable. It is tought to gamble on this, 1900 plus expenses. The only way to mitigate the risk is to know the Critical Elements down cold, have 5 or 6 careplans that you can manipulate for every occasion and know your documentation. I failed 1st CPNE because I forget to include skin turgor tenting on PCS Recording form. Duh.

Oh, no worries! I didn't take it like that at all. :)

I agree that it should be fair/equitable ... and it isn't always like that, which is why I have about an even mixture of respect and contempt for the CPNE. LOL. As Maureen so aptly put it, it really is a crapshoot! I was completely tortured with med administration, for example, whereas some of my co-testers had one med, one time. Crazy.

I did my CPNE, years ago, @ ELLIS HOSPITAL, Schenecdity, NY and that weekend (Memorial Day weekend) there were 3 children on peds, 2 were discharge Sat morning and the 3rd's parents would not allow a student to work with their child....SO, what was explained to us was, that we would have an adult patient as a substitute client. That suited me fine, as I too hadn't taken care of children in a hospital setting since LPN school, 23 years prior. I don't know if the program even uses ELLIS Hopsital anymore. It might have been eaten up by a larger hospital group and may have a different name now. I do remember that is was small and although it was a stress-provoking weekend, the staff was helpful and pleasant and was very supportive and LOVING when they heard that students passed....let me use the desk phone to call home and all cheered when the family picked up) REVIEW REVIEW and know the Critical Elements ( gee, do they still call them that?) and keep telling yourself " I can do this". My motivating force way back when was, "I've been doing this for years. I do as much, and know as much, if not more, than the new GNs and I deserve the same pay for the same job"..got me through. Passed the first 3 patient situations and then had to wait at the hotel for my friend to finish. GOOD LUCK !!!!!

i tested at plano and can tell you there is a peds unit....i didn't just get a peds..i got one that speaks a foreign language and was in isolation...its a good thing i can bs through anything......
