I decided to order it today. I figure it will be a good study aid when I am away from home and in between jobs, on breaks, etc... lol

I did not order it, but I do have one from another text that I will be using (Tortora). I wonder if the things that are on the website are pretty much what is in the study guide. If you can look in the bookstore I would do that before buying it and compare to what they have on the website.

The class sounds challenging but really interesting. I know it is an added expense, but I am really happy we have our "kits" to do hands on labs.

My book hasn't come yet either but I have another one (Tortora) that I am reading in the mean time. If you are near your home school, go to the library to see if they have a copy on reserve or that you can check out. Otherwise, take the syllabus with you and check out any Micro text i your local library to start reading until yours arrives. It will have the same general info. The first unit is an intro to Micro -- history -- so they should all have the same basic info. Do let the instructor know your book is MIA. She may have suggestions too. Good luck.

Good idea; I don't know why I didn't think about that before. I actually have the same Microbiology an Introduction by Tortora, Funke, Case that I used when I took micro a year and a half ago (I still can't believe I didn't take the lab portion) and I'll probably do the same and start reading it over again until my book arrives.

How are you all liking your class so far?

I actually like it quite a bit. I think the instructor is very involved and responds very quickly to our posts and emails. I have not done the labs yet, but I think this method of home lab is fabulous. After doing virtual science labs, which are useful, it is nice to get my hands on things.

How is it going for you? If you need any help, do not hesitate to ask.

Well, I'm not sure how it's going. Today, I find out my assignments weren't in the right format, I am hoping they are in the right format today. I am a bit frustrated with the home lab too. Ugh.
I was thinking of dropping it by tomorrow (last day to drop with refund) and taking it at the local college here in September.

Well, still here. 3 Quizzes, 1 Lab Report and 1 Exam later. Learning how to juggle between the two classes and their due dates. Other class is Human Growth & Development. So far, okay.

Glad to hear everything is going okay.

Glad you stayed. I still have this first group of labs to do. Man is it hard to see stuff in that cheap microscope. I tried to see if my husband could rent one for me from the med school but no dice. I tried the first 2 once, but going to try all three again tomorrow. Wish me luck.

That's funny cause I thought the same thing about the scope. Some things I can see very clearly and some things I am like..huh, I don't see any detail at all. I guess it takes some time for some of us to really know what we are looking at. Actually, I have become better at using the scope compared to a couple of weeks ago.

    Good Luck

I set up yesterday to start labs 4, 5, & 6. Hopefully, today I'll get through minimum 2 of them and if I'm really lucky, all 3 and hand in lab report #2 sometime this week. Working on Chapter 4 now for the next quiz too and a test in Human Growth. So far, my microscope has been okay.
Who's your instructor? Maybe we have the same one. Me and my girlfriend signed up together for Human Growth but we have different instructors.

My husband is getting really good with it. He stuck his chicken broth under there before cooking with it and liked looking at blood and yogurt. I couldn't believe when I called from work and he says, "Hon, you have to see what is in chicken broth, there is something in there but I can't identify it". Uh, no thanks hon. lol
