HI everyone! I need some advice....

I just passed my first NC test yesterday with an A (very relieved!!)

I'm a paramedic and it took me a bit of reading to understand the nursing process. I realize I need to know how to write careplans and write them well - my question is... is it too early in the game to start now or should I wait until I get more NC exams under my belt and get closer to the CPNE?

If it is recommended I should start learning to write careplans now - what materials do you recommend? What did you personally do to learn how to write them? I want to make sure I am competent in writing these things because they are so foreign to me.

Any help??

Nope it's not too early to start learning how to care plan, and I'll tell you why: On all of your NC exams (except NC7, which is basically Professional Nursing Issues & Trends) you will have nursing process questions regarding different health states. You might want to get the Carpenito's Nursing Dx Handbook, and the corresponding workbook to help you out with this. Start care planning every disease you come across in studying for each NC course. Very good question, BTW.

I appreciate your advice. I figured I could also get some extra practice by making careplans for my own patients after calls. I guess practice will make perfect. If I can master it before the CPNE, then that would be one less thing to worry about.

I practice care plans with some of my runs at work as well. It works out quite well, especially if it is a nonemergency transport and you have quite a bit of info about the patient. I carry blank paper with me and write down things about the patient, except the name of course, and then work on them later on. Good luck.

You might want to get the Carpenito's Nursing Dx Handbook, and the corresponding workbook to help you out with this.
Does anyone concur, or are there 'better' alternatives?

The Carpenito's handbook is the only nsg dx book they will let you use for the CPNE- it's wise to get used to the book before you start studying for the CPNE, as it has kind of a weird format.

I still have to take NC2 thru 7. Hopefully, I'll be done within 6 months. How exciting!
