Any trouble finding employment for Excelsior Lpn to Rn grads

Nursing Students Online Learning

Hello all my fellow EC students. So glad i found this site. I am awaiting my CPNE at St. Lukes in Utica, NY in October and have been studying like crazy. My concern is when i requested vacation time for the CPNE my DON began to ask questions about Excelsior and seemed sceptical about my education. I was a little stunned as far as i know EC has an excellent reputation with its RN grads. The conversation left me worried about my job prospects after, god willing, i graduate and pass my boards. Keep in mind she did not say she would not hire me as an RN but i got the feeling she was doubting the education EC has been providing me, which i feel is excellent. I live in NE PA is there anyone out there who can share there post grad experiences finding employment with me. This is keeping me up at night. Thank you, Nursing is Nice 1

Graduated Feb 20,2009. NC is a EC friendly state so I never got any negative feedback only postive. The managers that interviewed me were impressed by my determination. I was offered 3 hospital jobs and took the job at a level 1 trama hospital. Its too late to turn back. Try not to worry. Focus on passing the CPNE.

I took my CPNE at St Lukes in Utica and had a great experience. Good Luck!

get in touch with you BON for your state and inquire if EC is eligible, as long as you hear it straight from the horses mouth! and remember, when people dont know too much about something, they always take the defensive or have some sort of trepidation. when I informed my employers about going to EC, they started shaking their heads, and stating all sorts of things. I called my BON and they were like" yes EC is eligible and acceptable" just my :twocents: for the day. concentrate on finishing the mission. :smokin:

Thank you for your replies. You are right i will concentrate on finishing the "mission" at hand, and it certainly feels like one. PA is an EC friendly state, no extra requirements required. The BON nursing approves EC as an eligible EDU.

I appreciate any feed back I can get from EC grads everywhere and anyone in NEPA i would love to hear your post grad experience finding your first job. Thanks Again and Good Luck to Everyone

I would not let this attitude affect your preparation. The fact of the matter is that you will have an RN license. She can not take that away from you. If you are not hired as an RN in that facility then you will find a new position. One of my employers told me I would have to get one year experience as an RN elsewhere. Fine, I won't work for them once I get the RN license. I find it strange that other employers simply raise one's pay to RN pay and you go on your merry way. I figure it is their loss, not mine. I will make certain that anyone I meet is told about this policy so they can make up their own mind about the employer. Good luck on your CPNE.
