Any Deaconess Students out there

Nursing Students Online Learning

Can I here from some Deaconess students about how they feel about the program. There seem to be so many Excelsior students here. I just want to know how you rate the quality of education you are getting and is it worth the money?

They are hiring! The Federal Government donot lay off. baptist hospital and general hospital is laying off.

Are you happy there? What floor do you work on?

Hello all,

I'm a current medical assistant/CNA/Surgical Tech. I have been applying to the local RN programs here in Reno Nevada for the past 2 years and have yet to be accepted. Unfortunately for me it has nothing to do with GPA (3.96) :lol2: or past experience it's all in who you know :o . Anyway, I was looking into the Deaconess program and I'm ready to pay tuition and start, however I just went to our state board of nursing website and found that they do not recognize Deaconess or Excelsior. Do any of you have any insight as to how I would go about doing this? Do I have to N-CLEX and license in California and if so how long do I have to practice there before I can transfer to Nevada. The physician I work for is willing to precepto me along with a local hospital and he is going to pay my education but at this rate I'll be old gray and grouchy by the time I get into TMCC or UNR. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Liz

Sorry to hear about all the roadblocks you seem to be facing. I had not heard about any issues with Excelsior in Nevada, but California definitely does not accept EC education anymore, unless the student was enrolled before a certain date (in 2003, I think). The other issue you'll face with Excelsior is that I don't think they accept MA's anymore - it's primarily LVN's/LPN's, RT's, and paramedics, with a few other possible routes.

Just wanted to wish you good luck.

i wouldn't just take it at face value. many states will allow endorsement although they don't directly recognize ec. call the board and tell them you're an ec graduate with a license from whereever seeking to endorse into nevada. see what they say.

This was the same concern I'm having about Deaconess. I am set to begin there next month, but my state does not recognize their program. I will take the same advice traumahawk, thanks for the very helpful information!

I am a Deaconess College Graduate and now a practicing RN. I will be going back in July. It is very expensive; but a quick way to get your education.

I am looking into Deaconness and was just wondering, How well did you think Deaconess prepared you for the NCLEX? Was the exit exam difficult?

Before commiting to Chamberlain College of Nursing I would suggest you check their pass rate on the Missouri Board of Nursing website.

Also do a search on this site and read the many threads and individual posts concerning the recent status of Chamberlain. Pay particular attention to the posts made by the students/ex-students who are involved in lawsuits against Chamberlain. Deaconess was once a good school with a good plan for distance learners, now Chamberlain has turned into a horrible mess for many. Do your homework and buyer beware!
