We used Vicks BabyRub on ds when he was under 2 and it worked wonders. We never put it under his nose - can see the logic there - but on his chest, it worked like nothing else. My husband swears it is the miracle cure for everything from a sprained ankle or sore back to a bad cold.
Chris Rock's father was the same way about Robutussin. When Chris broke his ankle as a kid, is father rubbed Robutussin on it.
I never remember my mother using VapoRub. I never liked the smell. My mother didn't like OTC drugs in general. Anything from the doctor was okay, but otherwise she believed in fluids and guided imagery, which never worked for me. She treated coughing by ordering you not to cough.
