- Jun 29, '12 by TheCommuterThis does not surprise me. . .Nurses cited compensation, growth opportunities, and workplace culture as the three things they are most dissatisfied with.
"Nurses . . . have more issues with the culture of their workplaces, the people they work with and the person they work for," Golledge says. "The factors driving the unhappiness tell different stories for these two jobs." - Jun 30, '12 by MN-NurseQuote from Jenni811From my personal observations, nursing would also qualify as "The Job Everyone Hates, But They Wouldn't Leave If You Put A Freaking Gun To Their Heads."Anyone see this article? The unhappiest jobs in America - careers - MSN Money - Jun 30, '12 by AmbitiouzOf course nursing makes the list for unhappiest jobs. I only wish these articles would go more in depth on the reasons why. Going through the comments only gives you a taste of the reasons.applewhitern and slimlvn like this.
- Jun 30, '12 by Burlshoe114I agree! I think the nursing profession is being sold to the public as something it is not.
- Jun 30, '12 by 33762FLWhy isn't "unemployed journalism major who occasionally write fluff pieces for internet publishing and gets paid about $50 for it" on that list?
- Jun 30, '12 by JZ_RNIt's not my job that is unhappy. Maybe the work environment in specific facilities. I was miserable in LTC at a terrible NH. I am starting work in a clinic and I expect to be much happier. We'll see. I love patient care. I hate drama and workplace nonsense. I love being a nurse.VivaLasViejas and applewhitern like this.
- Jun 30, '12 by tigerlogicThe margin between happy and unhappy is pretty small in this study. I bet the standard deviation overlaps quite a bit making these "results" highly questionable. Didn't anyone else take statistics?!?
- Jun 30, '12 by VivaLasViejasI have had some---well, most---nursing jobs that were absolutely miserable. The one I have now is probably too stressful for my mental health, but I earn a good salary, perks and benefits are reasonably good, I have a huge amount of autonomy, and I adore my boss (who is one of the most decent human beings who ever walked the earth). Jobs don't get any better than this, so I do my best to combat the stress and be grateful for what I've got. :heartbeat
