Do hospitals pull this crap against doctors, or other health care professionals?

While it does look nice for the ANA to go public about this, and publicly support the nurses, where was/is, the ANA when it comes to staffing ratios, advocacy for the staff nurse who is resonsible for far TOO many patients, pay way below what a nurse should be making, non existent benefits/pensions. etcc. The list goes on. Where is the ANA as our professional practice is sold to the highest bidder? And our profession is de skilled before our very eyes?

The ANA has been asleep a the wheel while the nursing profession has gone to hell in a handbasket. Yes, it is refreshing to see a public desplay of support, but as we say in Brooklyn, that and $0.50 will get you on the subway, and they are about as useful as tits on a bull. JMHO and my NY $0.02.

I think you have a point in that the ANA's record is not exactly stellar in promoting the welfare of the bedside nurse. Then again, other than union members, how many nurses are members of the ANA? Can we expect to make an impact on ANA policies if we aren't involved?

This case in Texas is appalling and yet, as others have posted, anyone who blows the whistle on unsafe practitioners or facilities places himself/herself at tremendous risk in order to do the right thing.

When Texas gave up it's National Sovereignty to join the Union it reserved the right to split it's self into FIVE 'States of Texas', (quit shuttering!), South, North, East, West and Central Texas, because, even then, it was clear to it's OWN Founding Fathers, that these regions of Texas had separate geography, and separate Cultures, with their own separate interests.

Supposedly Texas gave up that right when it was dragged back into the Union in 1865, although there are some in Texas who still, to this day, say that this issue was not directly addressed in the articles of Surrender, and Texas STILL has that right.

What a colossal waste of taxpayer money. Reeks of politics and power play.

Welcome to nursing in Texas! That is why I am getting out now. I feel like there should be some adverse publicity for the attorneys involved, the sheriff's department, & anyone else involved - if they are made a laughing stock maybe then they will grow up! Nothing hurts these little Barney Fifes more than being laughed at for all their ridiculous posturing.

No, it is in Kermit; approximately 30 miles as the crow flies from the SE corner of the NM state line.
I have heard rumblings in the past few years about a doc there who is very unethical
I bet he is the one. We nurses are able to make a doc's life miserable - why not do so?
If we don't stand up for our colleagues we have no right to gripe about conditions. That is
what the NNOC is for, to stand up against these types of things...

What needs to be done is letters of outrage sent to the DA's office SCREAMING condemnation for such ludicrous spenidng of taxpayers money !!! Large media networks like CNN, MSNBC and the likes should be contacted so that this preposterous allegation is publicized nationally. National attention would hurt the doctor involved and inform the public of what we nurses have to put up with. All of nurses need to stand up to this legal vendetta attempted by this doctor and his 'good old boys' connections.

I for one will send emails out to the national networks with the link of the story. TIME TO SHUT THIS retributory harrassment DOWN!!! We all should do this.

Nurses, physicians, and attorneys from all over the country have come forward in support of Ann Mitchell and Vicki Galle for their patient advocacy. The Texas Nurses Association is providing updates on its website www.texasnurses.org.

This makes me so mad for the ladies, they did the right thing and now the real probelm gets pushed to back. What a mess this is for them to deal with. I can't believe that the charges were ever filed against them!
