This report lists the 10 major health technology hazards that should be on every hospital’s list of safety concerns. Revisions are based on the prevalence and severity of the reports the group has received over the past year, recalls and actions it has reviewed, and other published reports. Article includes list of resources and powerpoint presentations to educate and adapt workplace policies.

New on the list: air embolisms from contrast media injectors, retained devices and unretrieved fragments, fiber optic light-source burns, anesthesia hazards from inadequate pre-use inspection, and misleading displays on medical devices.

Nurses are on the forefront of taking precautions to minimize these technology hazzards...recommended reading for all AN members.
