I wonder sometimes, and since I am quoted above I think I can safely reference CarolinaBelle, if people actually take the time to not only read but understand the message of a post. How do you choose my words to convey all that is bad w/unions and somehow infer that I think unions are "all that?"

Allow me to review the sum total of my participation in this 10 page thread.

A few nurses were bragging, admittedly so, about the great strike pay they were going to make. I posted that I thought it ironic that that wasn't the case after all and in fact were making so much less than the regular staff at these same hospitals. If I seemed 'giddy' than I apologize. But it WAS funny and only because of their own grandiose ideas of "getting rich"

Others mentioned again the great pay, I disagreed on fact.

Finally I had a differing perception than that of a moderator in regard to equating working strikes with simply another pay choice. As if it's like choosing hospital 'A' over hospital 'B' with no other considerations. Nobody has to engage with those other considerations but to pretend they don't exist is silly. It's not an issue of whether a Mod has the right to edit or not.

I do want my opinion valued, which is why i haven't suggested anyone else doesn't have the right to do whatever they choose. I've long ago given up the notion that this group--be it this board or nursing in general--will ever elevate beyond the status quo. And that's okay.

I referenced the 'thousands' of RN's because more than 5000 Sutter nurses walked out and of their jobs last week for a cause they believed in. No doubt there were countless more who were with them in spirit, as you intimated. I can only speak for myself (though I'm confident I'm not alone) when I tell you that I have no fear of strike breakers. My only fear lies in the future of this 'profession'.

Since I, personally, have NEVER on this board or anywhere else been vehemently pro-union(except I will admit as to pay practices)nor, and please feel free to review, intimated that nurses shouldn't have a choice in whether they want to cross a labor stoppage, I'm a little mystified as to why you have chosen my post to decry the pro-labor tone of some on this long thread.

As it was the one that took the moderator to task for not toeing the majority line, I felt like it was appropriate to address it.

Trust me, I read your post and understand it clearly. Possibly more clearly than you do. And about that reading and understanding, it would be best if you didn't mangle another's name...it is quite rude.

The mods would like this thread to return to what is supposed to be, a polite, nonmudslinging thread about the strike. With nurses disagreeing but accepting that others have their own VALID opinions, respectfully communicated. While it is often tempting to start sniping match, it is not worth it worth. And I outgrew the need to play that game a long time ago.

Here's to hoping that posters can respectfully discuss the issue, and respect others positions.
