Re: Swine flu victim asked to leave ER dies next day
yikes, even if he was being "belligerant" or whatever the article said, i don't know why security would be allowed to ask him to leave without him first being triaged.
when i worked in the ER, everyone got examined regardless of where they were sitting or their behavior in the waiting room.
very sad. | | No. 3 |

there must be more to the story. That would never occur in any ER I know of - first, security would have to bring it to the attention of a medical person - usually triage nurse or team leader, or charge RN. They would assess the person, particularly if a person was lying on the ground. I have never seen security make a decision regarding patient care by having a person leave, especially since they checked in to be seen. Nope, wouldn't happen. Unless this security person acted of their own accord. In which case, good luck security guy/gal.
And on a side note, it's so irritating to read in the media about healthcare related stories that have more to the story. It's like stories are written with a little information, or completely inaccurate, just to get a juicy story out there - it's so irresponsible.

Here's a thought- he went to the ER and then left on his own. If he died the next day, he might have not been in his right mind perhaps?

Re: Swine flu victim asked to leave ER dies next day
When I had pneumonia, I remember sitting in my doctor's office waiting room for what seemed like an eternity. I could not sit in a chair that long, I felt so terrible, so I laid on the floor. Yet, I was ambulatory. I could get up and walk. I walked back to the exam room, and then from there to my car (no, I wasn't driving). I think it's entirely possible for a person to feel too ill to sit upright in a chair, yet be able to get up and walk.
However, I agree, there is more to this story than is being reported.

The same thing happened to my husband at the Dr's Office too, one time he was so sick with the flu that he couldn't sit up in the chair, and they came right over and checked him out, and he had to walk back to my car so I could drive him around the corner to the ER. The funny part about that is that two ladies saw how sick he was and were still complaining that they checked him out first while they were waiting for their appointments. Nice people! But regardless, I agree that there is more to the story. If they felt like they were kicked out of the hospital and yet he was sick enough to die the next day... I would think they would go to another ER? What a sad story. :/
