Did they ask how many of these people plan on getting this themselves?

It's still a free country, and from what I've heard, the side effects are worse than the disease.

I don't want to be mandated to get a vaccination.

And just were did you hear about these side effects?

It's not a NEW/UNTESTED VACCINE. It's a FLU vaccine! It's just using a known specific strain of influenza!

'Scuse me. It's not exactly new, but it's got side effects. I went online and researched it. I do not remember my source, but I linked it on my facebook page. It has been fast tracked. I've read up enough on it NOT to want to take it, and that is my choice and will continue to be my choice until I see something that convinces me otherwise. Do what you need to do, and I'll do what I need to do. I personally think the hysteria I'm seeing does not justify mandated vaccines. Last I checked, the government and the public are not entitled to use my body as a test site simply because I am a nurse. I'm nobody's martyr. I can do something else that doesn't require martyrdom for crappy pay and crappier hours. And that's my stance on this issue.

My intial thought on this is that most peoples response is an emotional one, and not one based on sciente. REAL SCIENCE and not National Enquirer science.

I laugh at the nurses who are complaining about having to wear a mask, "becaue it isn't proven". I think is the same thing that was said about handwashing. I've gotten flue shots every year for 35 years now, as well as vaccines like anhrax. I had my first anthrax vaccine at 16 when working for a local Vetinarian. One person posted a ling about the side effects that was focusing on the thermisol and early alzhiemers. I bet that person has at least one alluminum pan in their kitchen, and that was listed up there with the thermisol.

All medications are toxins/poisins in one way or another and it's a risk benift analysis in their use. I do agree I"m not sure about the goverment mandting them, but I look at polio eradication, and I think to myself, well that worked.

We that work in health care are in an unusual position in society. One of our basic tenents is to first do no harm. Passing on N1N1 to a patient would be doing harm, so I understand the public thought on the matter. But this whole deal proves that nurses are people also. You can go though threads here about people going home, getting undressed in the garage and putting their scrubs in the wash right away with hot water and bleach so they don't bring anything into the house, you see nurses who refuse to follow the simple universal precations.

Geting the vaccine should be a choise and not mandated in my opinion, BUT, those who choose not to get it should be ready to take the consequences. Los of employment in same cases maybe, maybe something simple like wearing a mask, or getting their temp taken before they come to work and if they are febrile, sent home. That is what PTO/Sick days are for anyway.

It is a risk/benifit anaylsis in any case to get the vaccine or not. in '76 there were 500 cases in GB in the millions of vaccines given. Many more people died with the disease. My choice when I evaluated the risk/benifits is to be first in line to get the vaccine. That is my choice and mine alone.

So my thought in this is NO to MANDATED, but unless you are in a specific risk group you should be voluntarily getting the vaccine.

I used to write for a magazine catering to the chemical and pharmaceutical industry and it has always been the bottom line for them. After all they do have shareholders to worry about first.

Regrading the H1N1 vaccine, how about the executives from those pharm companies (Sanofi-Aventis SA, CSL Ltd, Medimmune and Novartis AG) who the U.S. health officials have approved vaccines from get the vaccine first to assure everyone that it's ok and safe. I don't recall any of them saying they will be the first one in line.

I always get a flu shot every year and never questioned it before, but it's my choice. Re the H1N1 vaccine, I don't think so.

Well, I've been notified that one of our clinical sites, Nationwide Children's Hospital,is mandating their employees and any students, to take the H1N1 vaccine. We may refuse for medical or religious reasons. Any employee who does not get the vaccine will not receive a bonus or raise. Not sure if there are any other things they will do and not sure if that goes for the exempted employees. It was on the news this week so I'm sure All of the students (doing a rotation at children's) here in central ohio will also be recieving the H1N1 shot.

I'm over 50 and work with seniors, so I'm not in one of the high-risk groups for the 'swine' flu. I've always gotten the seasonal flu shot, however, and I'm recommending to my younger family members and co-workers that they get the H1N1 vaccination as well. But mandating it? NEVER!!!!!!
