I would bet she is making more money than I am making as a school nurse!

In college I had a housemate who had been a cheerleader for a major university football team. She had graduated, summa in history, and came to our fair city to find work and apply to law school, and she was smart enough to do it. She took a job in a club as a dancer, and came home a week later and said, "You know, some of those strippers used to be dancers, but I would never strip, even for the money."

That lasted about two months. We learned about how to attach pasties with adhesive tape warmed over light bulbs and placed at a deceptively perky angle, and where to buy the most durable feather boas.

Then it was, "Some of the girls are turning tricks, but I would never..."

Next thing, she's not dancing/stripping anymore, but she's got a new Mustang and a fur coat, and moved out of our house into a really nice condo downtown.

She never did go to law school. (Although I am sure she got quite a lot of money out of businessmen's budgets in other ways.)

My concern for this nursing student would be that she could never never get the kind of money as a nurse that she's gonna get in the clubs, and then she'll never really get into the real nursing thang. I'm not saying she shouldn't, what she's doing (so far) is legal (and yes, I know prostitution is legal in Nevada), and yes, I am fine with women being sex workers, but hey. Somebody else wanted that spot in the nursing school class.

I understand your point...mine was that standards are WAAYYYY different for officers who must hold higher clearences EVEN to be in a [u']medica[/u]l field. Any officer in any branch of service doing this must be an expert at flying under the radar.....A bad CREDIT score can louse up an officer's career, for heaven's sake~as can known adultery!

Even if she were to stop dancing, good luck getting in PERIOD. She'll need that civilian trauma experience in order to get a commission if they even will consider commissioning her with stripping/pole dancing/burlesque/and of the above in her background.

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

I don't see anything wrong it. Besides, I hear dancing is good money! lol ;) And as PPs have said, I'm sure there are a lot of professionals out there who used to dance.

Seriously, though. I think what people do on their off time (when they're off the clock or when they're not in clinical or class) is THEIR business.

Specializes in Psych, LTC/SNF, Rehab, Corrections.

I couldn't care less. in fact, if I could lose my nursing school weight...I'd be serving drinks in a gentleman's club near you (I was a waitress for a time. Pole-dancing is fun - and great exercise - but I never cared to perform in front of 'an audience' and was always a little disgusted with the notion of men putting their hands all over my body for a lap dance...which is how you make more money, FYI. Yes, I am judging because I can and it's freakin' gross, I'm sorry. So much for female empowerment....LOL These delusional hags have got it seriously twisted. To be honest, I don't know how a woman can do that on a nightly basis and not feel 'cheapened'. Hell - men are 'grabby' enough when you're just a waitress. Thank God for big, muscular bouncers...)!

I don't understand why she's broadcasting it, though? I didn't read the link.

What about the morality police BON? What about her future prospects?

Hello - people will fire you over a Facebook comment...and here she is, "Yeah - I strip. I do extras in the champagne room. I take my clothes off for money!" LOL

That's just stupid...but you know what's even dumber? Her pic in the article.

Please tell me that she had enough sense to not actually pose for a pic in her 'media interview'....

Good for her? Really?? Yes, good for her, she gets to take off her clothes and gyrate for leering/grabbing men at night to make money! What an accomplishment and sense of self worth she must have!

I laughed at that too. VERY TRUE!!!! lol.

I get what everyone is saying about her degrading herself, BUT!!! We wipe butts for a living! We get thrown up on, spit on, pooped on, and have to take care of peoples private areas! Some people may view what we do as degrading. So yes she grinds on men and WOMEN (OMG, Yes women go to strip clubs too, whhhhaatttt :nailbiting: ) and makes money for it!

What about the women who strip for their boyfriends or non boyfriends, or women who have sex with their boyfriends/ non boyfriends. They arent married to these men. The only difference between a stripper/ prosititute and these women mentioned above is that they are smart enough to get paid for it. Who cares if multiple men see her naked. What if she has had 20 boyfriends in her lifetime that had seen her naked would it be the same??? Alot of the women on here have had lots of boyfriends/ sexual partners I am sure and its kinda like the pot calling the kettle black. The only difference is she is in the public and alot of others are in the private but that does not mean the private peoples Sh!t dont Stink just like hers.

LOL. Sorry for the rant, but people judge and point fingers without fully accessing a situation. It doesnt hurt anyone what she does! This feels like a gay marriage debate lol.

Good for her.

I'm just most shocked that she can maintain a 3.7 with such a busy schedule in nrsg school. Nrsg school and such a busy schedule don't mix well. lol.

And I agree, she probably get more respect dancing and her coworkers are probably nicer! lol

Specializes in cardiac-telemetry, hospice, ICU.

I don't find this whole story newsworthy. Now if she got to the hospital one day very tired/ confused and got her jobs mixed up That would be newsworthy.

When someone I know needs a nurse, I care not who they have been, but who they are towards the people I love. Always nurse with your heart first, your mind second, and professionalism throughout.

Where are all the stripper-bod-job-worthy nurses working? None of my co-workers fit the physical requirements!

I'm assuming since you're judging your coworkers' bodies that YOU have a stripper physique?

Does anyone think taking your clothes off for $ may cause women to be viewed in a negative light? Do you think it could indirectly set the profession of nursing back when we have people stripping to enter the profession? Nursing as a female-dominated profession has been a particularly oppressed profession without people stripping their way through school. Just my opinion.

Those ladies have it all over nurses. They get no respect from their customers, give them nothing but a show, and get a ton of money from them. Where we get no respect from our customers, actually give them a valuable service and get paid way less.
