Police officials called the case one of the worst instances of child abuse they had seen

This one quote says it all to me. How is it that the abuse was so bad a COP would say it is the worst case that they have seen, but a doctor misses it? Shame, Shame, Shame on DHS. I hope that heads are rolling at the agency. My heart just breaks for all you school nurses who do this every day. And people wonder how I can do MY job.

Just a thought was all.
It's proven that she was abused, the stepmother admitted to it, so I don't think it was a case of mistaken symptoms. One could only wish...

This story just gets worse. The child was walking around with a fractured hip. And the step-mother said she limped because she was "fat". There is also evidence of sexual abuse:

I believe that school nurses should be able to remove a child's clothing to examine a child for signs of abuse and should have the legal responsibility to take photographs of those injuries. The nurse should videotape the exam so there can be no question of what happened during the exam. I am sick of seeing this kind of stuff and we need to empower teachers and school counselors and nurses to help with these situations. They see these kids every day, over and over. They should be able to tape record conversations, take photos, etc in order to assure that the child gets proper intervention. When I worked in the ED I saw abused kids all the time and it made me sick. I don't care one bit about the rights of the parents or guardians. Not one bit. All I care about is the health and safety of the child. Period. Nothing else matters. And the civil rights of the parents end where the rights of the children begin. And the problem is that we don't consider children as HAVING rights. And that is the reason so many kids die. As a society, we should be ashamed of ourselves.

And to parents. You don't want me calling CPS and the police over and over? Then stop beating your kid.
