NOT THE THIRD WORLD EMPLOYMENT, WHICH IS WHAT AMERICA IS BECOMING, DUE TO WORKERS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES WHO ARE WILLING TO COME HERE AND DRIVE DOWN OUR WAGE STRUCTURE, WHICH THE HOSPITALS ARE MORE THAN WILLING TO ACCOMODATE.
If anyone had read my previous posts, it is my strong belief, that the ultimate goal of all of this restructuring, abusive conduct towards nurses, is being done on purpose by the hospitals and insurance companies. It is an effeort to drive licensed nurse away from the hospital, so that they can claim that there is a "nursing shortage", and win more visas for foreign nurses, and de- skill our professional practice. It is an effort to cut the cost of healthcare by replacing high cost American workers with foreign workers, by insourcing, when outsourcing is not possible. And replacing licensed staff, with unlicensed personnel when ever possible. It is the drive that keeps the ANA from taking the plunge to make the BSN the entry into practice. Other countries already have increased the entry into practice, and the attitute will be, "well you American nurses aren't as well educated as the foreign nurses, that is why we are bringing them here".
Take a step back, and look at the big picture. If there was a true nursing shortage, we would be making $100, 000 a year with much better benfits than we receive. If nothing else, our salaries have stagnated in the past decade, and our benfits have taken a dive, as well. There is no real effort to retain nurses in the profession, is there? They just want to bring in a new group of suckers from "ABC Community College", every year to replace the experienced nurses who have left in disgust. Now ask yourself, why?
That is what Arnie, in California, is fighting for. He had been bought by big business, who want the above work scenarios to occur. He is being fought by the California Nurses Association, who have fought for, and won, the staffing war. They are the only ones. Regardles of what the anti union, anti CNA nurses can say, they have not, will not, and cannot win the battle by themselves against the hospitals, doctors, and insurance companies. Their delusions of grandeur, will not win them any work place reforms. Once again, JMHO, and NY $0.02.

Sorry that you do not believe that I am and RN. And yes, I do have my BSN, and yes I am a CCRN. I am not bitter. I have just been around long enough to see through the lies, and see the big picture.
I have been a nurse for > 30 years, and started out as a Diploma grad. It did not take long for me to figure out who was at the bottom of the food chain. Nurses are still at the bottom of the food chain, and we have not taken any steps to improve our "station" in the health care community. We have instead stagnated. We fight common sense fixes to our problems, refuse to take accountablity for our situation, instead complain to each other, and "eat our young".
It is not a pretty picture and if we don't take positive steps to take charge of our profession, we will not have one to fight over in the future. If you think otherwise, you are in la la land. It is not a figment of my imagination, there is a real threat to our professional practice. Hospitals and Nursing homes are trying in the worst way to de skill as much of our professional practice as they can. That is not being paranoid. Just look around. If you cannot see it your head is in the sand.

These are such nasty words from you Ma'am RN, BSN,CCRN..I guess you are probably fighting for something here..but i think before going on further with all your demeaning and "racist comments" against "Foreign nurses" (well i'm reading between the lines) Filipino nurses. I suggest you go back to your Foundation of Nursing and find out the Values nurses must have..especially for an "Experienced Nurse"
If you cannot stand the influx of filipino nurses in you country especially in your area, well, must be time for you to say goodbye to this profession and find a job that will pay you $100K..if there's one considering you Age. Reading those insulting words you posted, can't help but feel sorry for you. why don't you look back on thoses words you wrote..whew! I have such high regard on American nurses..tsk tsk..well, you're just probably 1 in a thousand..i worked with an American nurse before and she was very pleasant.
One last thing, You have no idea what we Filipino nurses have to go through to be qualified nurses anywhere around the globe.WE Are not JUST Foreign Nurses.WE ARE NURSES.

While I frequently disagree with the opinions of Linda on many subjects, I think you are being inappropriate in accusing her of racism - I didn't see anywhere that she made any remarks demeaning anyone because of or attributing negative traits to their race. Accusing someone of racism simply because you don't agree with their opinion detracts from your arguments and dilutes the effectiveness of the charge in very real cases of racism. You, on the other hand, made an decidedly prejudiced remark regarding her age!
Any time you post an opinion on an online board you open yourself to all opinions being expressed. Instead of simply expressing outrage that someone has such opinions why not muster a better argument for your side?
