Incidence has been increasing in Europe, but now starting to show in the US and Canada. The antibiotic of choice has been oral cefixime, but doctors have been told to stop prescribing due to increased resistance. That leaves IM ceftriaxone. What happens when the only drug left shows more resistance?
On that note, what does it say about our society if we need to invest more money into treatment of multi-drug resistant STI's and STD's?
