Rutgers plans Camden campus nursing school
Philadelphia Business Journal - by John George

Rutgers University Wednesday announced plans for a School of Nursing at its Camden Campus.
A final plan is expected to be presented this fall to the Rutgers Board of Governors, the New Jersey Presidents Council and the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education....

...The creation of a Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden will address what the university described as “the overwhelming demand” for a Rutgers baccalaureate nursing education in South Jersey through the expanded enrollment of 300 pre-licensure students and 45 registered nurse students over a six-year period. Graduate nursing programs are planned in targeted clinical specialties including clinical nursing practice in community health settings and home care. A nursing Ph.D. program also would be created to develop nurse scientists and scholars.

If anyone had any doubts beforehand that education is a commodity, then this should lay those doubts to rest. Second, for all of us budding nurses, this should be a further reminder that there is no correlation between the number of schools offering degrees and the number of jobs for graduates who hold those degrees. Everything I've read about NJ in general, and indeed many places throughout the country, is that a lot of new grads are unable to find work. Rutgers may very well make a profit on this endeavor, but it will be their graduates who get hosed.

I was thinking the same thing when reading the OP - there 'used' to be overwhelming demand but not now.

I guess it could work, if anyone feels like risking their life by going to school in Camden.
