I'm still on the fence about unions- the equal representation for ALL who pay dues and the abandomenment of favoritism: But maybe we should/need a re-birth of our unions.

On aide from LIBERIA to a dying (end stage cardiac disease- not confused) to 'pee' the bed rather than give that woman a bedban in her final days- THE FAMILY called am ambulance and took thier mother out of that place. Outrageous. and there were MANY more such events with these IMPORTS. I was also working per deim in a hospital and still do and the same crap- these RN imports don't think they have to emply patient's ostomy bags because they 'STINK' The Nursing administration LOVES these imports because THEY DO NOT COMPLAINT and that makes ADMINISTRATION's job ALOT easier: a Pleasureable and Stressfree work enviorment for these morons. No COMPLAINING, no ISSUES, NO STRESS, no problems and out the door at 4;30-5;00 to kiss the kiddies and hubbie or wifey-poo. WE, americans ( black, white hispanic, those of us born and raised in the U.S.A) however have been brought up with the U.S. Constitution- Freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom to vote = freedom to voice( and all that jazz that goes with this unamiable rights to being an AMERICAN) our opinions and QUESTION authority including Nursing Administration. These CEO"s and Administrator want NO CONTEST- paycheck, big bucks and leave for the day and they will squash, suspend, fire and defame your character if they have to, and replace you with an IMPORT for cheaper and less lip.!! The IMPORTS have been used to this submission, closed mouth behavior in their own countries and can play this game over here with our jobs!! ( one IMPORT from Sierra Leon told me she FLED her counrty because the soldiers of the government raided her village and were cutting the villiagers hands and feet off- she is an LPN- educated in RUSSIA, and ENGLAND and now here in a NJ nursing job) she will work 11-7 and come back 8 hours later and work 3-11 then 11-7 again!!! Some filipino's work 6-7 days a week and send the money back to thier families in the philipines- that is called SOJOURNING- a term in into. to sociology. The continental Africians, jamacians and other caribbean islanders do the same-they work tons of our overtime and send the money back to family in their native countries- who live like kings and we are out jobs. If you notice in places with no unions they are the ones who are offered the OT first- management knows they will ALWAYS do it. The Indians/hindu live in multi-generational house holds and pool thier money. They do not have the opportunity to come to America unless they are already wealthy - there are only 2 CLASSES in INDIA ( a CAST SYSTEM)- the very RICH and the very POOR (the street beggars) It all comes down to money (cheaper wages) and no backtalk. The Nusing Administration and CEO's are the new slavemasters- only now it's against the law to whip/and physically strike somone.
Thanks for your post. I thought things were bad enough now, but your additional insight and information is so tragic. Not that what we American nurses already know from our own experiences.

As I stated earlier- I had every right as an RN to ask Dr Prissy-pants "What about digoxin" it was a civil, suggestion. It's his response that's bizzare- to report me the the moron nurse manager? My job is on the line now- and I have only been there 4 weeks? What the Heck is this? It all comes down to Don't ASK, NO CONTEST. The rest of the staff are brand spanking new grads and IMPORTS ( who look like" see no evil, hear no evil speak no evil" and some cut out their tongues) My other question with this new found silence is - how long before they change the Patient advocacy standard. Or do we just tell the patient/family "it's o.k. you will die 7 times and then reach nirvana or to a newborns parents- it's o.k. it was a female baby you wasn a boy baby. These are the religious philosophies and beliefs of some of these eastern cultures. The value of human life is not the same to them as it is in America. I wonder if

LOL, maybe I got redirected to another thread somehow, I'm new to this web site and still have to figure out how to navigate it correctly.

I was referring to the comment about someone upset about not being able to get a job because the jobs were all being taken by new grads who needed to repay hospital offered scholarships. I responded that when I was a student the local hospital put money yearly into the nursing program and offered additional scholarships (reimbursed by working for two years after graduation at that hospital) this ensured they always had well trained nurses familiar with the facility policy and protocols for hire (prior to the big influx of foreign nurses being hired).

I couldn't agree more about foreign nurses taking over our market.

They contribute to poor working conditions in numerous ways. Jobs are becoming more difficult to find, wages are being held down because they will work for less and for many overtime hours, often they have poor communications and weak nursing skills and they can be cliquish, aggressive, and contemptuous. How is that for stereotyping? This is a generalization but has some merit with most everyone who has worked with foreign trained nurses.

For profit hospitals like the savings, they get more work for less pay, which means more money for stockholders and money for upper management raises.

This also gives foreigners a chance to get their foot on American soil. I am more concerned about this, than field laborers being deported for working agricultural jobs which no one wants. I think the government has turned it's back on the American worker, they ship our better paying jobs across borders and overseas, and allow corporate scammers to fill the jobs they can't export, with foreign workers. If the corporations were forced to put money into educating American nurses by offering more scholarships we would have more US nurses. Most can't afford nursing school. I speak with many people who would go to nursing school if they could afford it. These hospitals that import nurses also pay for their tuition and transport to the US they subsidize their housing also.

I typically don't like to discuss this issue because racism is ramped and on the rise, especially since the Bush administrations attention diverting war on illegal immigration, it just fuels the fire. I love the diversity of America and would like it better if we just all just considered ourselves American's it would give us one less thing to be divided about. But I do agree over planting foreign nurses in the US work force is making our lives tougher, and corporate lives nicer.

Oh my God! You are right. It's that DIVERSITY word we are having shoved down our throat. Embrace our culture, learn our language, learn our religion, BOW TO DIVERSITY. Admission forms asking how we can accommodate your diverse cultural needs. We are here for "Customer Satisfaction," we can make our nurses comply."

Also I just went back to the start of this thread to finish reading Karen Patterson's, journalist, article on "The RN squeeze." Throw away all the present nursing degrees, certifications, AA. Get a Masters, pHd. Shine, get polished, wear a suit to interviews. Become part of the wealthy and control completely the lives that we are only partially controlling now. We will be wealthy beyond belief. As far as I know, the CAST system as referred to by one of our posters works well. Especially INDIA and Mexico.

Thank you for coming back. Your post is very succinct and true. You say you love diversity. Well, I grew up in San Francisco and what I enjoyed were the communities of Chinatown, Japan, the Italian North Beach areas. Not our entire population being overwhelmed by the foreign imports.

You are absolutely right. Everyone is so afraid of being labeled racist, but they still need to be heard.

Karenchad: This particular post frightens me most. The value of human life. Having witnessed horrific conditions in LTC facilities and the hospital I was fired from with the PHIL M, I can verify with certainty and documentation that this group had no value for human life. I was remembering all this yesterday while lying freezing on a stretcher for an hour and a 45 minutes, in the holding area waiting for my endoscopy, in spite of asking for blankets that also got cold after awhile, and told "I know you have been waiting a long time." This hospital is one of the wealthiest "not for profit" hospital corporations in this city. Since I need to have this done every 6 months, it has been a few years that I have been going there. I have always had the best of the best of care there. What a shock yesterday when all the American staff was gone and nothing but foreigners except for maybe 1 staff and 1 volunteer. Ironically, from the beginning there were 2 filipina nurses that took care of me exclusively from the time I started, and I consider them best of friends. But now that I think of it, they were Americans with American values. One called me this morning to find out how I was and apologized profusely for what I went through yesterday. I love them. I am sure their jobs will last, probably because of their heritage. But bless them, I can see how things are getting bad for them.
