Retired nurse keeps herself active as volunteer

Catherine Clemento and her husband, Tony, moved to Sun Lakes from Philadelphia in 1999.

Catherine, a retired nurse anesthetist in hospitals in the Philadelphia and York, Pa., area, was not used to being inactive. After rearing four children and now with 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, you would expect she would sit back and enjoy her retirement. Not so.

Catherine volunteers as a member of the Sheriff's Posse, riding patrol in uniform.

"I would like to see more women involved in posse work, so when a woman goes out on patrol, the women's perspective is very important in police work," Catherine said.

If you would like to be involved in the posse, call (480) 895-8751.

Catherine also volunteers in Sun Lakes with the Civilian Assistance Program for the Sun Lakes Fire Department. The Ironwood resident also donates her time to the Chandler Police Victims Assistance program two or three times per month.

She doesn't leave out the Chandler Fire Department and volunteers in the Seniors Helping Seniors program installing smoke alarms and batteries. This program is available to all Chandler residents at no charge. Call (480) 782-2160. The Sun Lakes Fire Department offers a similar service.
