Thaks for the updates Indigo Girl. I work at a University and plan to ask our safety officer what we are doing as a state entity to prepare. We are not a hospital, but since we educate physicians and PA's and have a clinic also we certainly have a vested interest. Well.........acutally everyone does.

If you need assistance with that talk, feel free to pick our brains over at the flu blogs. Lots of helpful nurses over there, who are thinking these things thru and willing to share insights. It does help to have input from others.

Here is information on the 2007 CIDRAP Pandemic Flu Business Preparedness Seminar. The guest list is a who's who of famous names and influential people in the pandemic influenza planning world. I am linking to curevents.com because it is easier, and I am sure my friend, Fredness, over there, would not mind a bit:

I am trying to attend this conference, and it looks like it is possible for me to do so, MAYBE...

Anyone else want to go? The author, John Barry, of "The Great Influenza" fame, is going to be there!!! I'm such a groupie when it comes to this stuff. I admit it, I want his autograph! I sure hope that I can go to this, so many interesting people there. Just look at the list of speakers!!

For anyone who wants to attend, here is a link to register. It's not cheap.
I wonder if there are continuing education credits? I'll have to call and ask as I can always use these.
https://programs.regweb.com/metro/ci...e=registration

What if your hospital or organization were to send you? How cool would that be? To hear some of these people speak, I'm sorry, this is very exciting for me. As my father always said, "to each his own", whatever that meant...
I know, it's crazy, but this is what it takes to get me excited! Go figure...

The viral sequences from two of the three recent fatalities in Egypt were released at Genbank today, and there are some interesting changes in the H5N1 virus that should cause increased concern and heightened awareness:

I don't usually post about bird die offs, but I'll make an exception as this case is very suspicious because of the location, and the fact that these are migratory birds, very sad too...

I hope so too, but you all will have to stand in line behind my contact at the Dept of Health. They want me to share also. I am serious. I think they should go along with me. Then I won't have to keep after them, and getting the nurses union involved. Let's all go...

More deaths in Indonesia, all under age 40. This twenty something woman has not even been diagnosed yet, and she's dead already as is the other woman admitted a few days ago. Most likely, this younger woman is a positive case.

The situation in Indonesia is somewhat alarming. Translators on the flu blogs are working very hard to try and clarify what is happening over there. We are hearing about more clusters of patients, some of whom have died with s/s of avian flu before test results came back if indeed testing was done at all. Many people being treated with Tamiflu. Here are some comments from croftsblog followed by comments from Avian Flu Diary, and then some news from other parts of the world where avian flu has made an appearance. It is hard to ignore all of these reports. People do, of course, but how much longer can you pretend that this is not going to be our problem?
