Girl, you might be working on your PhD, but I have an uber PhD in nerd....you are referring to Spiderman.
    Duh- I have blasphemed.

But would you WRITE what she wrote on a public blog?
Not under my own name, but yes. I'd call professors creeps over babes but that's just me.

She calls children and babies, including her own, creeps. Publically.

How is that subjective and vague?

I was referring more to the patient details & HIPAA, etc.
But, I realize you may not have been educated on HIPAA yet.

And, why would you call professors creeps? They're just people (most of the ones I know are very nice people), and college isn't like grade school. You're not being forced to participate.

Nope, I am paying for it, for some creep professors to boot. Glad you've been lucky though.

I wouldn't call it luck. I've been a student for a good part of my life. One thing I have learned about education, is that 99% of what you get out of it, is what you put into it yourself. Professors are there to guide learning, but can't force students to enjoy it. That is the responsibility of the student.

Libnat, you are young and you sound young. Check back with us in 30 years, okay? Really, you'll understand better after some time has gone by and you've actually lived life.

Basically, you have no experience in life other than having been a kid. You don't know much about life yet.

I've been following this thread from the beginning. I think, for me, it comes down to one basic principle: Actions have consequences. Yep, she has freedom of speech, but when she chose to post messages that were in violation of HIPAA, she also chose to accept the consequences. When I taught freshmen in college, I hammered that into their heads: You have freedoms and choices, but there are always consequences and repercussions -- some good, some bad. Some expected, some not.

Age is not a trump card, and age alone is not a determinant of how much someone knows about life, and the opinions of people younger than ourselves (perhaps particularly if we disagree with them) are equally worthy of being heard. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you didn't post this meaning to be as condescending as this post sounds.

I agree with this post! Just as older adults don't wish to have younger adults dismiss their thoughts and opinions because they are older, younger adults don't like having their thoughts and opinions dismissed because they are younger. I don't agree with the user who is defending the nursing student who posted on Myspace but I agree with her right to voice her opinion and that you shouldn't be using her age as a weapon for ridiculing her.

Actually, I hope she does become a nurse some day....Gasp....I really mean that, but I honestly think she needs help. She has a child, who I am sure she loves dearly, and I hope that maybe this will be a wake up call for her. I don't know how sincere she was when she offered to go to counseling, and after her "two faced Siamese" comment I think it is okay for me to be a bit dubious/skeptical.
    OMG!!! my:

This is the most unprofessional thing to do. Websites are public domains and while we have a right to freedom of speech, we as nurses are to be non judgmental, caring people that look out for the best interest of our pts. Apparently this student did not really care about her ethics or how things could be for the pt. As a fellow nursing student, this reflects negatively on all of us and that is not what this profession is about. She has NO right to be a nurse.
