Unfortunately I have two friends that are attending this "school" one is going for her LPN and the other is already a LPN going for her RN through this school! Both are aware of this article and have heard all the rumors first hand and the two of them must be brainwashed because neither has intentions of dropping out of the program. They believe it will get better not worst? This school isnt even able to accept NWLB, Financial Aid or grants and they've been paying at leat $350.00 a month out of pocket! Just from calling to request info over the phone RED FLAGS went up because everything was so secretive, I kept requesting their website and the one I was given had nothing even remotely relevent to a nursing school! I'm glad I didnt waste my precious gas going to receive info! I do have to admit I was pretty desperate also, but.....NOT THAT DESPERATE!!!!! The Lord did give me something called COMMON SENSE!!

Most of the commenters who posted at the end of the article think the school is a good idea!

"It's hard to research the new business endeavors in town. Why, because it takes time, and money two things that articles are not written with latley. Journalists don't take the time to find out what is really going on becuase depth doesn't sell and dirty stories do. The information in this piece is selective like most "informitive literature". The bottom line is that any new business, especially those that set up shop in the inner city, need to be supported or at least properly researched before they are disregarded. We has a city and now as a state can't afford to discourage any possible business especially those that have a mission to help residents gain the means to help themselves. Detroit has been dyeing for a very long time and the few investors that the city has should be taken seriously and with much consideration. We can't afford to let new ideas and ventures carry the bias of prior scams and scandals. What will we do with all the people if Det. Implodes, the Superdome?

Gavel Nursing School Scam in Detroit Update! Please read.
The Detroit Free Press released an article about the school saying that it is not accredited by the state therefore the students enrolled would not be able to take the NCLEX. The "school" is located in a high rise building on E Grand River in Detroit. Students paid $6,000 and were told they would get their tuition back from the state. The operators of this school have no intention on giving the students' money back. They will get grants from the state, have the tuition money, and shut the doors. I know someone who is in this program. I have told her over and over to cut your losses and run. She said that the owner (who has no teaching experience at all, she is an RN) is assuring everyone that they will get their degrees. She and her son (I think might have a college degree, but in business management) have since closed CAHP Healthcare Preparations yet the students still show up. The Jamaican nursing school that they are affiliated with IS accredited and told the students that when they take their NCLEX, not to say they got their education and training from them, but that they got it online from this "Jamaican nursing school". I am trying to research the name but, have not had any luck.

So, a few times a week the students, who have paid more tuition money, sit in a room logged onto the Jamaican nursing school website taking tests with the answers provided to them by the owner and a few other nurses. I am ashamed at these people for taking students hard earned money! They need to be stopped, I just don't know how to go about it. Aside from the $6,000 in tuition money they have already taken from students, they are now asking for more money so they can help them with the online degree. The mother and son duo are scam artists and should not be taking money from people that are just trying to get their education. Included is a link to the article in the Detroit Free Press and a link to my first post:
