BEFORE ITS legislative session ends in July, the Massachusetts Senate has an opportunity to protect hospital patients as well as the nurses who care for them by approving the Patient Safety Act that was passed overwhelmingly in the House a month ago.

The ratios bill would require that the Massachusetts Department of Public Health implement enforceable limits on the number of patients a registered nurse can be assigned, thus providing patient protection in all acute care hospitals. …

hmm the latest ad i have heard, has the hosp asso claiming that it would add 500 dollars to every persons health ins bill, every year......havent figured out how....

Studies show that with better nurse to patient ratios hospitals see better patient outcomes and shorter hospital stays, lower infections rates I would think this would save hospitals and patients money.

All I know is, without decent nurse-patient ratios, I could not continue to work at the bedside.

California's ratios appear to be the gold standard.
