Here in PA, a great many hospitals are on hiring freezes. Mine included. Despite this, every orientation period has 2 or 3 new grads in it. The last one had a girl who relocated here with only a few months experience. This, of course, raises eyebrows amongst the people who graduated from the school right down the street but were told we were on a hiring freeze. It also draws the ire of the nurses who have been here a long time and have had their PTO drained from being called off for low census. Where are these people working?

My hospital has job openings, sure. But, they are turning new grads away. They only want you if you have experience. I feel badly for all the new grads now..it's tough out there.

I recently got my Washington State License and I find it hard to land an RN job since I have no RN experience yet. Most of the hospitals would direct me to a nurse recruiter. I am thinking of going through a recruitment agency. What do you think guys?

At my hospital in Springfield, MO, they are advertising 58 RN jobs (PT and FT), then the list goes on for LPN jobs and we're 1 of 2 'mega' hospitals in the area, usually the other place is hiring about as many...

I know that it is going to be especially hard for me to find a job when I graduate because I live with my parents now because my husband is in the coast guard. And when I graduate and move to live with him, it will be the first time I will ever be in that area. And, since I go to school in Illinois I will have to pay to transfer my license to where ever I go and I am afraid that it will look bad without having any experience. So I understand the fears of not being able to find a job.

After two months, I found a job!!!!! But still, I disagree with this article. It may be "thriving" in a year or two, but currently, it is not a profession that is welcoming to new grads.

I am a new grad RN (BSN) and am mainly out of a job right now because I am picky. I live in St. Louis, and there is plenty of work here even with the 'job market' in gutter!

You can do more with a BSN, prime example: you must have a BSN to commission into the USAF (my plans as of right now). I aslo believe you can't go from ADN to MSN without BSN either (another plan of mine)!

You can go from ADN to MSN in one program, no BSN required. Takes what you need from a BSN program and moves it right into what you need for the MSN, without having extra time and fillers in between.
