Nursing graduates find tighter job market - Page 16
Register Today!- May 18, '11 by grayscaleHello nurses! I graduated in May and I'm still struggling to find a job. I have submitted tons of application forms and I only got called for one job. I did an internship for that same hospital and was given high hopes that I will be hired when I graduate. I was interviewed but didn't get the job.
Weird thing is, I know two other people who have worked as CNAs for years in the same department I was interviewed for and they still didn't get the job. One of those two CNAs got good grades and was VERY active in all nursing school extracurricular activities. So far, there are only three of my classmates who have a job. One of them is smart enough to get accepted at Mayo Clinic. Two of them were accepted in another hospital department.
It's really starting to get frustrating. I have another interview on Monday, but this time, it's for Target. I can't believe I will be doing the same job as I did BEFORE nursing school. I don't even know for sure if I will be accepted for that job as a cashier.
Here's hoping we get jobs we have hoped, studied, and worked for.

- May 22, '12 by Aongroup1990Yes, so true. the best thing is to stay in school get alot of experience by volunteering, internships, questions, research... facts.. and more... Staying educated along with certifications helps alot...
- May 22, '12 by Aongroup1990I think that education will be ongoing in our lives until we are six feet under. It's not over yet everybody keep trying, and what I will say is get certifications, talk network, get to know people, recommendations.. More and more education is needed as the world will get tougher.. Try applying for the low-down well lower level jobs LTC. Jobs you hate, that could even help you... Try getting a long list of cities and find any hospital or one of each in that city and apply to that hospital. Just change your cover letter. Follow up with 4 at a time each week. Sometimes connections, honesty, education, impressing others can help as well...Not_A_Hat_Person and coffee&milk like this.
- May 24, '12 by amygarsideI think that fresh nursing graduates are not the only ones who are struggling to find a job. The really bad economy has affected everyone, whatever their fields of work are. Most grads are either unemployed or underemployed.
Good luck with job hunting! - May 24, '12 by shankemp2112I definetely feel your pain and frustration. I just made a thread expressing my frustration and disappointment. I am about to start applying for positions as a bartender just so that I can pay bills (the bills that piled up during nursing school). I just graduated this month and have been applying diligently since Feb. I will be praying for us because we have worked hard!
