Sad story...family members kicked out of SNF for photographing fire damage in facility, NA pours steaming hot cereal down hospice pt throat and causes terminal burns, NA sexually abuses CVA victims...makes you want to keep gramma and grampa at home doesn't it?

Even more disgusting is the fact that taxpayers (that is you and I), pay almost three/quarters of the funds into these homes via Medicare/Medicaid.

Personally think it is time to start to license all NAs, and the various other techs working under a RN. Process should be same as for nurses and other professionals; full criminal background check, DNA check, work history check, and a clause about "moral fittness" for the job. At least with a license there would be a central place to report such vermin as this, and hopefully keep them from floating around.

I agree. UAP need to be held to the same standards as nurses.

Something needs to happen to the owners and administration of a facility that would turn a blind eye to ANY sort of abuse of vulnerable residents. Period. We can call for the perpetrator to be put to death, castrated, raped in jail---BUT UNTIL FACILITY OWNERS AND ADMINISTRATION ARE HELD RESPONSIBLE AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF THEIR EMPLOYEES, ABUSE AND NEGLIGENCE OF VULNERABLE PERSONS WILL CONTINUE.

The nursing home owner who tried to cover this up should be criminally prosecuted and put in jail. Same punishment as the actual perpetrator. The culture of CYA in health care facilities is reprehensible. Hold the owner accountable!

The thought of someone abusing one of my residents just makes me Where was the company during these 7 yrs? Just recently we had an incident at my facility where one of the CNA's hit a resident. The other CNA who was working with her told our Executive Director & an investigation was done;which resulted in the CNA in question to be terminated, the B.O.N. was contacted, and also our state ombudsman. But wait there's more---the girl who got fired started harassing & sending death threats to the CNA who witnessed the incident. It was a pretty scary ordeal for everyone, because a couple of cars were vandalized. The point of my story is- I can see why some people are afraid to report things, for fear of being labeled a "snitch" or being threatened..but in the end, you're not there for yourself. The safety & wellbeing of the residents is always the #1 priority.

OMG, if I saw a coworker doing that I would punch him/her, consequences be damned! That is beyond unacceptable.
