Nurses file lawsuit over mandatory flu vaccine - page 9
I read some post regarding this matter and then I saw this on CNN and then it took me to this site. I thought it was interesting. :D ... Read More
Oct 18, '09Here is the somewhat sanitized version of the story from one of the more "credible" corporate controlled media outlets:
There is a lot of pressure put on clinical researchers to accept the dogma of mass vaccination. Most of this pressure comes from the drug companies whose only motive is profit.

Oct 18, '09Quote from lpnornotThis is very true. Most of the disease we see in modern American society is a consequence of diet and lifestyle. Based on the current reports of the importance of adequate vitamin D, it is likely just as valid to say that adequate vitamin D intake would be more effective in preventing colds and the flu than mass vaccination. This is also likely the real reason why that more people get sick in winter than in summer. People get much less sun exposure, and therefore much less vitamin D in winter. There is little profit to be made by the drug companies in promoting vitamin D however. So our pharmaceutical industry continues to push for mass vaccination. If you want the truth... just follow the money.Prob only about 1% of this pop is eating the find of food and living the lifestyle that would naturally protect them from infectious disease and chronic illness.
Oct 18, '09Thank you for that.
I feel absolutely terrible for approving the HPV for my daughter. I refused the 2nd dose last month. I hope it didnt do any neurological damage. I know that since 5th grade her personality has changed, she went through depression, and now somthing seems wrong with her socially. Maybe its unrelated. This is a child who had no vaccines until the age of almost 6 according to her fathers insistance and had nothing more than a cold and a rash and fever once. And look what Ive done to her since her fathers death, through ignorance, fear, blind acceptance of mainstream corporate pressured media and advice from the medical community who are prob pressured and manipulated by drug companies. Did she really need the Hep B vaccine and varicella and all those damn flu shots they gave in school!!? WHy are kids geting 36 shots when I got only 10. apparently since 1989 the number of vaccine shots has increased from 10 to 36! They wanted to give my son a second varicella and I got a long freindly lecture about vaccines when I refused. According to my doctor there is more ADD in the US cause we are a land of immigrants who are naturally spontaneous!! Then why dont he Amish have the rates of ADD we do?
Im only just starting to learn about this topic. What other reputable sources are there about vaccines. I want some solidarity with others on this topic, some facts to back me up in case I have to fight for my rights on this issue, be able to successfully refuse vaccines I dont believe in. I know Senator Robert Kennedy Jr is strongly opposed to mercury (thermasol) in vaccines and believes in the link to autism. It very confusing. You almost need to read the scientific research yourself because not all studies can be trusted-they have to be repeatable, relevant to the topic studied, reliable, not funded by vested interests. Too many "scientic" studies are weak and flawed and stats manipulatd and biased towards a company who wants to prove something in their favor. Ive read from Kennedy that the studies CBC relies on about the mercury in vaccines-thermasol, were done by the a vaccine drug company! and that there are 100's of independent studies showing a link between vaccines and autism and other neurological disorders. But more of this type of study is being discouraged.
I read about the company Monsanto who have polluted waterways with PCB trying to come up with studies that showed they were safe. Even when fish placed in the river water shed thier skin and died in a matter of seconds, they continued to pollute the water. Just to show that you need to watch out for corporate influence. Bottom-line is profits for most big companies. Another example is the studies on genetically modified foods-showinng damage to animals who consumed them and yet there was political pressure on the FDA to accept them. the FDA and USDA and otehr gov agencies are full of former and future Monsanto executives, the company who make genetically modified food (corn and soybeans-70% in the US) and cotton and they are pushing for wheat.

But guess what, the drug companies do profit in one way-the profit from vitamin sales. And most supplements are useless. It better to get your vitamins through diet and for vit D-some sun exposure. And Ive read that too about winter and lower doses of Vit D exposure and yes thats when we tend to get more ick. But supermarket food is so void of nutrients.
Ive been reading very enlightening books about how to be healthy by eating real chemcal free, whole foods:
Michael Pollans "Omnnivore's Dilemna" and "In Defense of Food". Also "Fast Food Nation" about our fast food industry and what it has done to our country and world. Now Im reading an amazing book, "Real Food" by Nina Planck. Its scary the difference between industrialized meat and dairy and the real stuff from a small grass fed farm. The vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, probiotics that most of us are missing out on and the antibiotics, harmful bacteria and chemicals that we are consuming instead!
Nov 6, '09More good news people! Major health systems across the country are abandoning efforts to force mandatory vaccinations because of workers objections and legal challenges:
And you just gotta love this line from that shill for the health care industry that has the nerve to call himself an "ethicist":
"I think it's pathetic and highly disappointing when health care workers go to court to put their own self-interest ahead of those they care for,"
Remember people, we have all the power!
Nov 6, '09I wonder if Mr. Caplan would feel differently if he was the one who was given no choice and was mandated certain health behaviors instead.

Nov 17, '09I would like to know honestly if this is legal. I was fired over voicing my opinion about mandating a flu vaccination and/or wearing of the mask during the entire 12 hours shift. I feel healthcare workers wearing a mask when caring for their patients sends a sense of fear and anxiety to the community. The media has gone wild with all the reports about the H1N1 flu deaths and the "severity" of the situation, this alone is causing the general public to over react. Last I checked we were suppose to have freedom of speech an the freedom to make choices in this country. I have been told to talk with the board of labor regarding my situation. The hospital I worked for also mandated staff to wear stickers on our badges to identify that we received such vaccination, which is a HIPAA violation in itself. Isn't that my PHI, I am made to display? Now I am told "no one is to question the vaccination, just get it or not (wear your mask) don't say a word or you will be wrote up" ( I set an example I suppose) What do you all think, do I have a case against my employer ? Making others wear a mask is discrimatory toward those who don't get the vaccine.
Nov 18, '09since our professional association ana endorses getting vaccination but is opposed to mandatory vaccinations, you may have a legal case.
but first, i'd suggest you file an appeal of termination with your employer using their grievance process to seek reinstatement. follow the grievance process to the letter in order to protect your employment rights.
definitely apply for unemployment while you consider legal means, seeking consultation with an attorney specializing in employment law in your state if the grievance process does not result in reinstatement,
there are 2 ethical principles here:
a. as nurses, we have an ethical obligation to protect ourselves, our patients and our families from illness.
b. protection of nurses’ workplace rights
balancing both of these principles is a fine act. since a national emergency has been declared to minimize spread of this virulent strain that is affecting young people and pregnant women the hardest and mandatory vaccination is being requested by government, employees have more leverage in protecting patients from "hospital acquired infection" spread by their own health care workers.
ana urges registered nurses to get the h1n1 vaccine
ana maintains long-standing policy opposing mandatory seasonal influenza vaccine policies for rns, though considers vaccines a critical public health measure
recognizing that the h1n1 virus is a pandemic and a public health emergency, the american nurses association (ana) is urging all registered nurses to get the h1n1 vaccine to protect themselves, their families, and the patients they serve.
though ana continues to oppose mandatory seasonal influenza vaccine policies, it also acknowledges that the public health threat posed by the novel h1n1 virus will spur employers to enact mandatory h1n1 vaccination policies for health care workers as a safety measure. ana does not support such policies unless they adhere to certain guidelines to ensure they are fair, equitable, and not enforced as a condition of employment.
"ana understands the potential need for a mandatory vaccination policy during a pandemic, but we are committed to ensuring that such policies are not discriminatory or punitive and contain appropriate exemptions," said ana president rebecca m. patton, msn, rn, cnor. "the bottom line is no registered nurse should be fired for not being vaccinated. that said, we should all be vaccinated, since no one has immunity to this new h1n1 strain. while some groups may be more vulnerable to severe illness and death, we are all susceptible."
ana believes mandatory h1n1 vaccination policies should only be implemented under these conditions:
• the mandatory policy comes from the highest level of legal authority, ideally state government
• suitable exemptions, such as for those allergic to components of the vaccine, are included
• discriminating against or disciplining nurses who choose not to participate is prohibited
[font=times new roman, times new roman][font=times new roman, times new roman]• the policy is part of a comprehensive infection control program that includes personal protective equipment, such as n95 respirators, to increase safety
• vaccinations are free and provided at convenient times and locations to foster compliance
• the employer negotiates with worker union representatives to resolve any differences when the policy is implemented at a health care facility
ana’s protection of nurses’ workplace rights should not be confused with the message ana is delivering to nurses: get the h1n1 vaccine. to promote vaccination, ana is sending a letter to its members and to affiliated specialty nursing organizations encouraging immunization for h1n1 and seasonal influenza.
noting that the seasonal influenza vaccination rate for nurses and all health care workers consistently remains below 50 percent, ana president patton said, "as nurses, we have an ethical obligation to protect ourselves, our patients and our families from illness. vaccination is one simple step we can take to do that, and it’s even more crucial during this h1n1 pandemic. we strongly encourage nurses to lead the way to increasing vaccination rates among health care workers."
