You can get Gullian Barre from contracting a virus without ever having had a flu vaccine. It amazes me how many people say things on here with out any scientific knowledge. And, yes, I know I probably spelled the G word incorrectly.

[quote=CinnScorpStudent;3898866]Here's a couple of reasons I don't get vaccines, haven't had the flu but once in my life (93') now 42, I think I'll stick with my own immune system's track record.

Quite interesting no?

Then there's this:

Bayer/Baxter if anyone remembers was responsible in large part to the distribution of HIV tainted Factor VIII as well, some track record.

Another interesting page for consideration:

In fact one study reported in the Journal of Infectious Disease in 2005 or 2006 found that the risk of GBS was higher following encounter with the influenza virus than it was following exposure to the vaccine. Don't have that article info at my fingertips but am pretty sure I could locate it if someone is interested.

You apparently are the one who does not know the facts. It is common knowledge that you can contract Guillain-Barre from a vaccine, if you need to have written proof look at the insert that comes with the flu vaccine. No one I think said that there are not other ways to get Guillain-Barre. Please keep this a positive discussion, and if you are going to criticize at least present factual information.
Thank you.

Seriously, let's put this into perspective. Each year an estimated 20,000 to 40,000 people die from influenza in the US and to date 1,300 have died from the H1N1. Yes there are some differences in the novel flu's presentation (some GI sxs), and yes it is a 'novel' flu at least to younger people. But in older people, they seem to have more immunity to this virus (it is speculated that their immune systems have 'seen' something like this before). Surely, some of the 20,000 to 40,000 were indeed formerly 'healthy' (this is a vague term -- perhaps no medical conditions per se but not necessarily healthy -- there is a difference!) and ended up with bacterial complications, just like with the H1N1 but for some reason the latter is making more news. Regardless of news hype and escalated fears, the numbers speak for themselves. Relax everyone and take care of yourself.

Keep your fears to yourself but share your courage with others. ~Robert Louis Stevenson

Not sure who said it was "reasonable" for employers to mandate that staff get vaccinated to avoid termination...I certainly know that I DID NOT SAY THIS, even tho my post is quoted in your reply. What research exactly are you assuming that I need to complete to satisfy you?

Without this deteriorating into a virtual brawl...I did NOT say nor did I imply that you couldn't get GBS from the vaccine. I said you could get it without ever having a vaccine. And, yes, I know the vaccine can result in GBS.
Get the vaccine or not...call the ACLU if you want.

i
Baxter Labs is not one of the companies providing swine flu vax for distribution here in the US.

I have to say I'm bothered by the "You need to research!" "No YOU need to research!" "Gain some knowledge!" "No YOU gain some knowledge!" that these vax threads are breaking down into.
Isn't it possible that we're all smart professionals that have done our research and have come to different conclusions for ourselves?

If I believed half of what was on that page, I'd be scared too.

That is some website! Lots of deliberately misleading information there. I don't have time to address
the whole conspiracy link but here are few corrections to the distorted info on that page:

Squalene in not licensed for use in the US so it is not happening.

Monkey cells? All of our current flu vaccines are grown in eggs so you can stop worrying about monkey cells.

Again, Baxter is not providing our swine flu vaccine.
