Re: Nurses file lawsuit over mandatory flu vaccine
Seriously, let's put this into perspective. Each year an estimated 20,000 to 40,000 people die from influenza in the US and to date 1,300 have died from the H1N1. Yes there are some differences in the novel flu's presentation (some GI sxs), and yes it is a 'novel' flu at least to younger people. But in older people, they seem to have more immunity to this virus (it is speculated that their immune systems have 'seen' something like this before). Surely, some of the 20,000 to 40,000 were indeed formerly 'healthy' (this is a vague term -- perhaps no medical conditions per se but not necessarily healthy -- there is a difference!) and ended up with bacterial complications, just like with the H1N1 but for some reason the latter is making more news. Regardless of news hype and escalated fears, the numbers speak for themselves. Relax everyone and take care of yourself.
