Nurses at Buffalo's Mercy Hospital could authorize strike

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Nurses are bracing for a possible strike at a local hospital. The nurses, service, clerical and technical workers at Mercy Hospital have been working without a contract for just over a week.
Later Wednesday, they could give their union the authority to take job action.

Members of CWA Local 1133 are holding a strike authorization vote Wednesday.

A union spokesperson tells News 4 the last meeting with Mercy officials was Monday, and no new talks are scheduled. But union officials are quick to say talks are not necessarily at an impasse.
About 1900 employees are affected, and the biggest issues on their minds are said to be staffing levels and health benefits.
