My husband wanted to wear a white cap for his pinning. They wouldn't let him. What's up with that?

If no one should comment on nurses wearing Sponge-Bob scrubs and Crocs, why is it okay to criticize nurses who wish to wear their caps? I think there are quite a few nurses who are proud of their caps and would wear them from time to time if other nurses didn't smirk and treat them like dinosaurs!

I like the white cap and what it symbolizes. I vividly remember my pinning ceremony in my sophmore year. I still take my little white cap pin out of my jewelry box from time to time. I look at it with pride, and it reminds me of that idealistic kid who wanted to serve and change the world.

I'm still a student and we have to wear them for clinicals. You hear grumbling about it from time to time but we certainly stand out! And the patients love it.

I got a late start but I wanted to be a nurse from the time I was 6 and in the hospital to have my tonsils out. I still remember the nurses with their cool hands and their kindness, in white uniforms with their striped caps. I thought there would be no better job in the world. Still do.

There are probably a dozen or so nurses who still wear there caps where I work. I don't wear mine, but I worked hard for it and have no problem with a cap as an icon for a nurse,...it beats the sleazy short skirt and stiletto heels!

"I've even had numerous physicians ask me why nurses don't want to wear their caps anymore, and comment that if they (the physicians) had anything as cool as a cap to wear, they'd wear it every day. "

Let's get them all those flat little golf hats to wear... LOL LOL

Default Re: Nurse Stereotypes and the White Cap...
I dont think people believe these silly stereotypes anyway. If anything, I think most people have a very positive view of nurses. I heard a statistic once that ranked us as the most trusted profession, above doctors, lawyers and policemen. I dont think people really know what we do or appreciate how smart we have to be, but I dont think they view us in a negative way.
