I've heard that an assault on a health care worker is a federal crime, but I can't find it on any of the search engines. Has anyone else heard this? Does anyone know where to find that law? Thanks!
When the man who assaulted me was arrested, he was booked for a "federal misdemeanor" which is a federal crime of the "lighter offense". :angryfire

I called a few attorneys who told me I definitely had a case, but they would not pursue the case themselves because "the man who assaulted me didn't have any money worth their while". :angryfire I kid you not. That is EXACTLY what those California lawyers said to me.

I was then told the county district attorney made the decision not to press charges against the man -- "The state of California vs. the criminal" -- because it "wasn't worth the state's time to do so", and besides "it was the man's first offense with the law". :angryfire So, that man got off scott free. :stone

However......... I was informed I had seven years to press charges against the man for assaulting me if I wanted to take him to court.............:stone

Knowing how to defuse someone who is very angry is a special skill. You have so much adrenaline that you have a hard time controlling your own bodies reactions when you are threatened and you feel unsafe. Everyone has a different level of reaction to threats.
Assessing what happened and making a registered complaint is another issue. I have always said that if someone did truly threaten me or harm me I would call 911 long before I would call my superiors. As a supervisor I have called 911 twice for other employees because of threats. Both of them were from sig others. Twice I have had family members arrested, one was 302, one was driving under the influence of alcohol.
I would welcome a metal detector in our entrance door. I would really like to have a security officer not just supervisor and maintenance and hope someone is near a phone to call 911.
